:winkwink:
Since something like this has occured to me on more than one occassion, and in my life two rules always prevail.
1. No good deed goes unpunished.
2. Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong, and fuck me at the worst time.
I of course opted to track down why in the hell I was getting what I thought was free money credited to one of my accounts. I would request copies of all payments including copies of checks etc. until I found out how and why this happened.
More often than not it always came back to the same damn reason, it was never a mistake, nobody paid for me, and yes the money was mine. The most common reason's being that at some point either overcharged me at some point and then found the error and credited me, or #1 reason when I opened the account they took a deposit that was to be held for so long and after I paid my bill ontime every month for 2 or so years they refunded it to me in the form of a credit.

Sarah ask yourself this:

If you were to suddenly find out after six months or so, that you'd been paying somebody else's phone bill .. And they had in fact just let it go on. How would you feel about that? What if the phone company told you that you still owed for YOUR bill after paying somebody elses?

The phone company isn't going to eat up the difference. They're going to nail the person who is mistakenly paying the wrong bill. It's probably a typo on somebody's online payment setup.

There IS the possibility that the phone company is just making the same error over and over. I just think it's MORE likely that it's somebody, a real person, who simply hasn't noticed.

Hey you never know? Look at Punker Barbie she got fools wanting to have her paint with her naked body! i think paying your cell phone is a little more reasonble! But hey who cares accept the payment until it goes away. It is not your job to watch their mistakes. Worst case scenario, just call them and tell em you want to check on the forms of payment for your last 5 invoices. Tell them you have been on a drug binge or just highly intoxicated for a few months! If it is credit card the owner is protected, and if it is cash what are they gonna do? they are gonna keep it and bill you. Whats the point in that! Just enjoy it! Oh and you are quite Hott, I might add!:thumbsup

I just have a little voice in my head telling me to call them..but seeing as though I got mixed replies, I dunno what to do still. Which pic did you see...?

myjah 08-12-2004 03:15 PM

Personally, I'd make 1 call to inquire about it and correct the error. You did that. Not your fault they didn't want to listen to you.

it will cost way over $350 in administrative fees (that they will bill you for)
I seriously doubt they will charge her an admin fee for correcting the error.

I think you should definitely call and get it staightened out. It is probably somebody else paying to the wrong account. If they find the error they can still take the credits off of your account and you will still owe. You can't claim they made a mistake, so you don't owe them money. YOU used the cell phone, YOU know you didn't pay, YOU would still owe the money.

Not to mention, it is just wrong to keep something that doesn't belong to you.

Sarah, years ago a friend of mine who was married and broke. She was putting her husband through school. One day at the bank she had her passbooks updated and noticed a sum of $50,000 was deposited into her savings account. No one she knew had any money and it certainly wasn't hers. She reported it to the bank who told her that it would be a good idea NOT to touch it until they did their audit. They did it and said it was hers, she argued with them...they audited again...same thing. The only conclusion they could come up with was that someone with a lot of cash deposited it into her account by accident and just didn't notice. They told her they could not legally prevent her from removing the money but suggested she did not touch it because when the person realized the error, the bank would be taking it back.
Months went buy, months so tough that sometimes they barely had enough to eat...they didn't touch it...she kept asking the bank...same answer. They told her that after 7 years the money was legally hers and no one could go after it. Seven years later her and her husband went on the honeymoon they never had with the interest from the $50,000. When they got back they put a down payment on their first home with it. It has been 15 years since she noticed the money, no one has ever inquired about it. They assume it was an older person that deposited it and they perhaps died and the relatives did not know about it and hence didn't look for it.

Good things happen...I would suggest you enjoy it while it lasts...keep the money in a seperate account in case they find the mistake at some point.

This will only last until the person realizes his bill isnt getting paid and when the phone company figures out where the money went you will be responsible for paying your bill. If your going to take advantage of someones mistake be ready to pay your bill when you get the notification from the cell company.

kush 08-12-2004 04:52 PM

When you originally got your phone 3 years ago, did you have to put a deposit on it?

I remember when I got a cell phone in high school I had to put X amount of dollars down to be eligible for service.

Could this perhaps be the case for you and they are finally now creditting your account?

poorwebmaster 08-12-2004 05:39 PM

Give me your fucking cell phone

jimmyf 08-12-2004 05:49 PM

don't say shit. Just make sure you have the money 2 pay if and when they find the error.

If it was another person paying by mistake it stands 2 reason they wouldn't have phone service, being they have not paid there bill. So I would guess it's the phone's mistake.

I use 2 get double and triple payments when I had a main stream company, and I mean often, just one case of a company calling me and ask if they had paid me $5,000.00 by mistake.

Pan Am was great with paying an invoice 2 or 3 times. they went busted

tranza 08-12-2004 07:13 PM

Who cares???

I'm not promoting SlickCash you spammer...

Goatse 08-12-2004 10:13 PM

I usually turn down a free lunch because there are always conditions behind it, but in this case I don't see the harm in riding it as long as you can. The worst that can happen is that they notice the error, in which case you'll have to pay for the past few months. Best case scenario, you'll never have to pay again.
