SP2 - My experience last nite

Ive been running various beta versions of SP2 since February and never had a problem. So I figure what the hell. Ill give the final release a shot. Downloaded it from MS, installed, rebooted, no problems. Go to connect my DSL and start having problems. Seems that SP2 knocked out my modem drivers, as well as my network connections. Took me about an hour to fix that shit. Over all a good update, but a pain in the ass to have to put up with network issues on a machine that can run for weeks at a time with no reboots or reconnections to DSL.

One of the many reasons why I am going to wait a couple of weeks before installing that shit..

Could someone please explain what "wait a couple weeks" is going to do for anyone? You are going to get the same release in a couple weeks through windows update as you would get today from microsoft.com

The main reason for waiting is simple, while the majority of fixes in this release are for securing the sheep, that's who will be flooding the regular support channels for help once they run into thier particular grief. IT pros and power users aren't looking for the firewall and popup blocking that sp2 is delivering...

I don't see how this is a reason? I'm confused because people think there will be another, more "stable", release in a "couple weeks". Who said that is going to happen?

I haven't seen any rumors out to that effect...

Waiting for a few weeks only gives others time to install and report thier horror stories. To compare with...

kinda like buying the newest technology...you don't usually buy something brand new...until you see reviews on the web for it.

there again, MS has been known to revise and re-release patches and service packs in response to consumer installs gone wrong.

There IS some benefit to waiting... For example, lets say that modem brand XYZ stops working after the update (which is quite possible)... and you happen to have XYZ modem, then you are kinda screwed...

If you wait a couple of weeks on the other hand, then there is a good chance that either XYZ manufacturer or microsoft will release instructions on how to get it working or will offer some kind of a patch...

give it a month or two, its not really a big deal if you won't install it now. Mine is working very well on SP1 and not really anxious to put down my PC again. The claims of crashes are posted in different sites (go check at google.com) and indeed there are still lots of loop holes in the update itself.

Even the big companies like IBM or Symantec have shown concerns on the Sp2 release.

I installed it on my laptop and the performance boost with browsing was so noticeable I installed it on my main system.

Browsing is somewhat faster and no damn popups of any kind at all.
