Good Political News.

Democratic sources said Jeffords will become an independent.

The move would swing the balance of power to the Democratic Party in the evenly divided Senate. Sources said Jeffords has indicated if he becomes an independent, he will vote for Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle of South Dakota to be Senate majority leader, shifting party control.

I'm hearing some conflicting stories on this one.

There's, of course, most people saying he will be independant. Supposedly tomorrow so he can announce from his home state.

I'm also hearing however that he's been swearing up and down that he's not switching party lines; I don't give much credence to this one though.

I think it is a done deal.. It doesnt matter if he goes indpedent or or democrat.. Just needs to leave the GOP to offset the balance of power to the Democrats in the Senate.. If this happens it will take a lot of pressure off us, and will lead to perhaps a change of the supreme court justices.

We just need to keep Ashcroft as far away from us as possible for the next 4 years.

Hey BP (my godfather ),

I'm not trying to burst your bubble but, it doesn't matter what party he claims..it's how he votes. He has in the last couple of months voted democratic and republican.

Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled. But, all it really amounts to is PR. It is a lovely "shove it up your ass" move towards the repubs..but nonetheless am empty move.

He has to vote (as an independent) democratic for there to be any true change. And that is not a given. He is simply a moderate republican that wished to make a statement as to how disillusioned he was with his party. BRAVO!

I could go on and on about this...been following it closely. Won't bore those reading.

My bottom line..it is symbolic. Symbolic in Dem. favor. Which is a lovely thing. But it will not necessarily change anything in our favor. But, it took HUGE balls to do so. I commend him. It is not easy being bullied around like he has been the last month or two.

But, as far as policy/law goes...there is no difference from before. If you are a Repub. you are always open to vote how you like... across party lines.

The best thing out of all of this, is it put pressure on Lott from the moderates to tone things down to keep him (which he didn't, big mistake) and it gave the Dems a PR win and the Repubs are royally pissed at losing him.

I would go on and on about what this means to us Dems..but, I'm a little preoccupied with other things *applause from the stands* LOL.

Been following closely...bottom line is it all comes down to how he votes. And whether he is technically a Repub, Dem or Independent has very little to do with that.

The good news...He obviously is not a Bush/Retard supporter. Very good no matter how you slice it up.

The make up of the supreme court is what is important here.. They are all Ascroft Puppets and this is of major concern to us, or at least it should be.
