    TCG: Whaddup?

    Hey guys .. I've looked a bit but cant find any good info on whats up with TCG.

    I asked Laura, she told me they would be back up tommorow, and that they went down at 6:00PM Sunday evening.

    this is what the owner JB posted on teh boards:
    Well I guess its Murphys law,, we had 2 harddrives fail
    on our Netapp. We had one spare we keep in stock at
    all times just for this problem. That means we had one
    but not 2 and guess what the other drive from Net app is
    on its way as we speak via air freight. I can anticipate we
    will be up as soon as possible.

    As I said earlier,, ALL webmasters will be paid for average
    joins plus 10%. We know you work hard for delivering
    traffic to TCG and I am as upset as you are. Think I am
    working on 2 hours sleep but who cares. It will be up and
    every webmaster will be paid for traffic during this downtime.
    Ok anyhow ... Between 6:00Pm yesterday, and 8:00pm today .. thats over 24 hours of down time due to drives.

    I've had drives, memory, mother boards .. you name it .. go bad at the most random times ...

    You can ALWAYS get backups quicker than 24 hours ... and if nothing else you can get new servers or some shit to at least let traffic flow, not lose retention .. or what the fuck ever ...


    Anyhow .. Just thinking that this HAS to be more than just 2x HDD failure.

    Any input?

      Very good point Mike, a hardware failure can be fixed within a few hours, probably some other shit hit the fan and we don't know about it.

                      I agree with you MadThumbs. Who is there host?? I mean 24 hour downtime isn't really excusable.

                          Yea I know about the 10%, and thats fine and dandy. I know I'm gonna get my money every day ...

                          What I'm wondering is if there is something else going on behind the scenes other than this 2 HDD failure deal. It's just obvious to me that 2 hard drives can be replaced a little quicker than this.

                          Oh well.

                              Not sure about the hardware side of things and to be honest, its not really my concern. Whatever happened, just bring it back soon and I'll be a happy camper.

                                      That's why I asked above, Who they host with, because either this 2 Hard drive gone bad senerio is bull, and the problem is much larger then this, or their host simply sucks.

                                          Guys trust me I am not making up stuff.. It was Network Appliance machine thats about $60k.. It has 36 drives and
                                          all the data is mirroed across the drives. It is very unusual
                                          that 2 drives go bad at same time with a machine like this.

                                          We run cachefs on the tour servers but still has to call
                                          the Net App box and in my wildest dreams did I ever
                                          imagine 2 drives would go bad. Heck we even keep a spare
                                          drive in stock for this exact reason. But it is not the type
                                          of drive you can get at comp USA. Believe me I am sick
                                          to my stomach about this down time and highly frustrated.

                                          We are working as fast as we can and will be implementing
                                          another round of redundancy to be pro active in the future.

                                          We host with cavecreek and there is no other agenda or
                                          issues than what I discussed. Ron C is a good friend of mine
                                          and Ian at cavecreek knows about the problem but there is
                                          not a darn thing they can do until we get the drive here installed
                                          and tested.

                                          I wish there was more I could tell you,, like I said before if
                                          its any consolation ALL webmasters will be paid plus 10%
                                          so Mike even though it sucks big time that we are down you will get more money on your next check.
