Kobe is the closest one to reaching his level right now...

But do you mean past or present? If your talking about past there were alot of players way better than Jordan ever was.

No one will ever dominate the way Jordan could take over a game. The greatest ever straight up.

Only one player can compare. Pistol Pete Marovich.

Jordan has send on numerous occassions that Pistol Pete was the best ball player of all times.

I think Jordan is being nice, and trying not to be cocky. Jordan is the best.

that is a poor statement.. MJ was the best player to ever play the game and it looks like it will be like that for quite some time... yes there are many greats but he was in a league of his own... he made basketball in the 90's ..

i doubt that.. who is everybody? im sure there are people that think that but on a whole i bet you will find MJ being the greatest... we should find some career stats.. that will tell you a story i bet ;)

maybe this cant be judged until kobe finishes basetball.. but at what he has achieved so far i think its ridiculous saying he is better the Mj ever was..

I disagree... I would say Bill Russel was a better player than Jordan ever was.

- 11 Championships
- Coached and played at the same time and still won a championship.

Then theres Kareem, Moses Malone and Doctor J.

But currently no active player is better than Jordan...

Nobody, there has been people before him that scored more points or won more championships, but the style MJ played with puts him in a league of his own.

Kobe is a fucking Joke. Nobody played to win and played both sides of the ball as well as Jordan. Kobe is shit. Were he Jordan they'd have won that title this year.

There is no one better than MJ...not even Kobe. And the fact that Kobe will never get the respect that MJ did on the court speaks volumes. It takes more than just shooting 40 or 50 points a game to make a great player. How you live your life off the court says a lot, too...

Thats true that he's in a league of his own... he made the guard position number 1. Before him most great players were usually centers.

But it doesn't make him the greatest player of all time.

His technique, his vision, his skill, his determination, his fighting spirit, those are the things that make him the greatest basketball player of all times, and in the top 10 of the greatest sports persons of all times

Every single player in the NBA top 50 had technique, skill, vision, determination, fighting spirit and heart...

I would still say Bill Russel would be the greatest of all time.

Forget about it! I saw jordan in his prime at the old chicago stadium and I've seen kobe on the floor at staples cente, kobe is a great young ballplayer but jordan was just so much better, that whole flying, tongue hanging, slamdunking thing, amazing. Jordan created magic on the parkay, all smooth and finesse, with smart shooting skills and great leadership. Kobe needs alot of maturation and will never electrify the sporting world the way jordan did.

As for Shaq, no doubt he is also an incredible player but at 7'1" and 3bills plus who wouldn't be. In other words shaqs sheer size allows him to do so much that others can't, Jordan on the other hand wasn't the biggest but he obviously had the skills!
