A friend of mine in high school had surgery to remove a brain tumor. They left a cotton ball in his head and it set up an infection that almost killed him and it left his face partially paralyzed. He ended up getting a couple of million dollars out of it. He's really lucky to be alive.

This kind of thing has happened before, objects in the operating room being left inside the patient. Truly horrific.
If you have any surgeory done on you and you experience odd chronic pain, go to several doctors and have them run their tests and so on. You just never know.Comment

That kind of thing happens all the time. Surgeons forget sponges, clamps, even surgical tools. Its actually common.
The crazy part about the story, is that essentially the woman killed herself by sucking the smoke of 2 packs of cigs a day into her lungs for decades. Now ultimately when the costs are all passed on from the bogus lawsuit, we're all going to pay to make her family instant millionaires for something that most likely had zero to do with her death. THAT is the fucked up story...Comment

Operating rooms have standard procedures. Everything is counted prior to surgery and then counted again before closing to make sure nothing was left behind. So obviously either someone can't count or someone was not following procedure.Comment

But two years ago, a coworkers wife went to pop one out (a baby) and they did a c-section, leaving a cloth in her ... belly.
Two days later, there was a "weird smell coming from the wound" which they reopened and snatched out the rotting, bloody piece of surgical cloth.
I dunno if they sued cause I never liked them and could care less; but had to hear about it at the office until I told them all to eat my dirty ass, then left.

Yeesh. I guess operating rooms must be a lot like mechanic's garages. They take the shit apart, lay out all the different pieces, and when they put it back, there's like pieces left over.
