Yeah, Napster just TOTALLY sucks as of late. As far as other programs, I've tried quite a few of them. Bearshare & Lime Wire were highly recommended, but I tried both of them and they're pretty much the same program and they BOTH SUCK !!! It's a pain to find stuff and when ya do, it takes FOREVER to download, even if you have a cable modem, I was disappointed with both of them. Plus I hear that Bearshare has Spyware in it.
Anyways, someone on this board actually recommended Music City's Morpheous - http://www.musiccity.com and I've used it and have been pretty happy with it. It's still not the old Napster, some songs are still hard to find on there, but with what's out there today, it's much better than the others. I've downloaded a few tunes with it and most of the downloads have been fast. Just make note on that program, when downloading, it shows bandwidth, the HIGHER the bandwidth, the better, it's not like Ping that Napster used. I'm sure that someone out there must be working on something that's just as good, if not better than Napster, but until that program comes out, we'll have to stick to Morpheous. Try http://www.audiogalaxy.com it works completely different from napster/bearshare and stuff. It's web-based, you get a small program called a "satellite" then you enter the songs you're looking for on their site and it downloads them for you. If it can't find them, it downloads them automatically when it does find them.
Every song I've looked for I've found right away though. Apparently it's damn popular. Not as fast as Napster, the fastest I've got was about 20k/sec - but you can go in and enter 20 songs, then close the page and it downloads in the background. |

Napigator has REALLY gone downhill also since the loss of the OpenNap servers, which were the huge backbone of file sharing.
Even on the smaller servers, when I go to logon, it says that there's already the maximun number of connections and it won't let me connect. |
