Why do couples send out formal wedding invitations if they are already living together, have children, own a home and been together for years?

well did the invatation happen to mention they were registerd anywhere so you can hae easy acess to a list of stuff they want

I'm sure there is more of a reason but my guess would be that is the main one not that there is any thing wrong with that
