pdf's area viewed by acrobat reader you can get a free version at
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

Netscape used to have a plugin (think IE does too) to read right from the web. Word used to read them but I can't remember if it was a plugin or the straight program.

If you install Acrobat Reader you can view .pdf in IE
