Music thread: I'm 25 and old fashioned?

I like good music, as many do.
However I don't consider techno good music, nor rap. A person can download a copy of a program from kazaa and make techno (granted you need some talent for that crap too).. but it's all the same. Mechanical shit. Rap is the same thing, have a friend bang his head to a metal pot to create beat and then talk fast.

I might be old fashioned, which I find funny at the age of 25.. but I appreciate a garage punk band more than a techno wizard.. atleast they almost know how to play an instrument.

that being said, I occasionally do like to listen to some computer-created music, such as Moby. But overall I think the shit is way overrated.

Anyone wanna bash me? Or possibly have any other input in this matter?

You know? You aren't old fashioned at all. Check this shit out.... I have 4 kids, ages 20,15,10 and 6, and you can hand them all rap or anything like that and they will hurl shit at you........ but hand them some GOOD honest to god music, and they are fine with it. Their favorites are shit like OLD Van Halen, KISS, Aerosmith...... and then they like Kansas, Ozzy, Bad Company..... my youngest loves Elton John and any girl band she can find... LOL

Coming from a dad that plays music, they are pretty well in tune with just about all kinds of music and they like the old rock and roll/metal. This metal today is SO NOT metal. LOL

My 10 yr old son likes some rap, but if he had his preferences, he likes the older stuff. I heard them all getting down on some Tom Petty the other day like it was some new shit they had just discovered. It is cute as hell to watch them.

I won't even listen to commercial music radio anymore except for a classic rock station and that's because of their morning crew, not the music. For anything current I'll go to my launch.com station; after 4 years of training it knows me well

I never ever listen to the radio - ever. I have a collection of 500 CDs; Everything from Abba to ZZ Top. Somewhere inbetween I have some rap, and some more recent CDs. I myself am a huge Dave Mattews Band fan.

Listen to what you enjoy listening to, and screw everyone else.

you kidding me??

I was at the cottage this weekend with 40 twenty-one year olds and we had a live band there and all they wanted to hear was the WHO and ACDC..

u'r not old fashioned, you just appreciate the art of making music as opposed to artificial. Altho there is lots of great "artificial" music out there

I also never listen to radio, I have several hundred CD's as well.. but I don't think I have a single rap cd.

About listening to what I enjoy, and fuck everyone else... too bad my girl likes crap music, so when she's around I'm not allowed to listen to my favorites without sparking a fight. lol.

How old are you?

I didn't start to appreciate classical music before the age of 18-19. I am 20 now.

I get shit all the time from my friends for being "old fashioned" in my music tastes, and I am 22.

And Tam, you are right, metal isn't metal anymore - the mainstream stuff anyways.

I am on a Megadeth kick at the moment, their new album kicks ass (its not released yet, but it leaked out).

I rarely to listen to music made after 1981. Classic rock and classical are basically all I can digest. Frankly, I don't even understand the appeal of many types of music, like hip-hop, rap, death metal, dance, etc. It all seems like unmelodic, barely coherent noise to my ears.

I love all types of music except rap/hiphop and techno, but really have a passion for death metal, hair metal, garage punk, country (especially old school shitkicker music) and anything extreme

lately, I just can't bare to take the new Mastodon cd out of my player...best album of the year

Fletch, if you haven;t given these guys a listen, I highly suggest them. They are beyond the typical grind/death stuff

Anyone else enjoy the old music of the "Rat Pack" days? Maybe some Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin? I love to relax, have a glass of wine and listen to Dino singing "Don't let the stars get in your eyes".

So many great classics in those days.

I am All about good music. I can disagree with you at all. THe minor talent needed to rip off someone elses masterpiece to make a shity Rap or techno Song is Sad really. And you are right they do all sound the same. Throw me some tunes that mean something. from guys who toiled in the club scene, knew eachother forever and tour the world endlessly. they make music for the love of music. not SOme cracked out punk Singing mother goose rip offs.

I couldn't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks of my musical taste. I 'suffer' from being very passionate about music but having the music I love being varried. I have a secret love for big band music, I LOVE punk, I like metal..the harder the better but yet I also have a place in my heart for 80's music. Then there is Placebo..lol.

Pretty much the only rule is that it has to involve actual instruments and I can't stand boy and girl b(l)and type stuff.

Whatever you listen to is the best music.

Only people who dont consider the music they listen to the best music are people who dont care about music. They use music as a space filler. (i.e. commercial radio)

for anyone interested, try out:
Grim Skunk
Small Brown Bike
From Autumn To Ashes
Tricky Woo

That should keep you busy for a little bit...

Also pop/techno can be good, you just have to do it right, i.e. Bjork is a genius.

I was thinking how old most of the music I listen to is when I turned 24....Most of the bands have broken up or are in a reincarnation with -1 +1 members.... As far as all this new shit thats comming out I can tolerate about 10 percent of it... Pretty much all BS.
