true, gone are the days they bury their oppenents with a 50+ margins

they really have some issues... i think of the game, Iverson and James were not allowed to play for they failed to report on time. well, we can say they are playing it lightly for its only an exhibition game.

playing alone in the NBA is a big intimadation factor to their opponents, they are considered in the top on the Basketball food chain.

their individual talent alone cannot win them the Gold and bring back the lost fame, they need to regroup and plan team basketball.

its just a matter of time before they blend in to the play. playing diffent ball clubs right now is a good exposure to them. still, i hope they don't get over confident.

The game was just an exhibition, so they're not out of anything. I only watched a little of the game but Italy was shooting nothing, and I mean nothing, but threes and hit pretty much every single one of them. Then on defense, they were packing in the zone. With a team that hasn't played together much, and is short on perimeter shooters, the U.S. was kinda screwed considering how hot the Italians were. The U.S. team is far from it's best possible, but still is much more talented overall than any other team. The problem is that they spend almost no time playing together when compared to the time the other teams spend. American players also are short on fundamentals, team play, and perimeter shooting thanks to that asshat David Stern's abomination to the basketball world, the NBA. The talent disparity isn't enough to overcome that anymore. They still are slight favorites IMO to win the gold but it wouldn't be surprising at all if they don't. I think a game like this could be a good wake up call though, as I think the American players haven't come to grips with how much the rest of the world has caught up.

Coaching the NBA champs does mean very little IMO since it's more about babysitting than coaching (case in point: Phil Jackson), but Larry Brown is one of the best coaches in the world without a doubt. I don't think they could have picked a better coach for the U.S. team.

And this is coming from a Duke fan (Brown is a UNC guy).

Coach Brown is one of the best coaches of all time. He LIVES for the game.

The problem is the US has a young team, that has only played together for 2 weeks.

Other countries have teams that have played together since they were in grade school.

Basketball, especially international Basketballl is a TEAM sport. The NBA game is one based around stars, and thus they have a hard time playing team ball.

However, Coach Brown is the master of TEAM ball - he convinced Detriot to play team ball and they destroyed the Lakers.

If he can do this with the young NBA guys, and they can gel the next few weeks they should do ok.

100% on the money. Hopefully Brown can gel them together even given the short time they've had to prepare.

You wont win olympic gold for the first time..

if the best USA players dont go to olympic games thats US problem and if the current players cant get gold no excuses are accepted.

Brown is no doubt has showed briliance and gives him a reason why he was herald to the thown to lead the US team, beating Lakers and Phil Jackson alone is a record setting feat in the history books.

However, take note that these players have their own individual talents that paved way for their multi-$$$ paychecks for their respective ball club.

It's a matter for a coach to discipline its players regardless of their fame and money. Remember that Brown gave up his career at Philadelphia for he can't win any championship even with Iverson in his lineup. Same case for Jackson for he is not in good terms with Kobe/Payton who doesn't know what team playing is all about.

the bottom line is, are these players coachable despite their individual skills and are ready to play a team game?

Popovich is on the U.S. staff so he's there, Sloan is good but I think Brown is better, Jackson is more of a babysitter than a coach so he wouldn't have been appropriate here IMO. Much of the strategy you see employed by Jackson comes from his longtime assistant Tex Winters.

The international game is a different animal than the NBA. It's much more perimeter oriented and hand checking is considered a foul. Also the rest of the world is catching up to the US in basketball, period. Look at how many Europeans are playing in the NBA now.
It's only an exhibition, yes, but without Shaq, Kobe and some other premier players who declined to play, this team will be hard pressed to medal IMO.

I don't think it means much that Brown left Philly. He did get them to the finals but the West was just way too good in recent years to go through without strong post presences. He's never stayed anywhere for all that long so it wasn't much of a surprise that he left Philly.

Hell the man took the Clippers to the playoffs, he must be pretty good.

Having him on the staff might have been a good idea, but Jackson's too stubborn to abandon the NBA style of play and make adjustments.

Brown is a good coach Im simply saying hes not great, The championship detroit won was given to them by the commisioner of basketball that series was by far the most obvious fixed series in basketball history so no I cant give props to coach brown.

Are all USA players comming from the NBA ? If they loose, that will just proove the NBA sucks badly ...

But I don't think so so they will most likely win gold easily

Just noticed this post...

Man, if you're choosing coaches based on rings alone I'm glad you're not the one picking our staff. Those are all 3 good coaches yes, but Brown and Popovich would have had just as good a shot, if not better, at winning all those championships Jackson has if they had his players.

Simple, theres no way detroit would of beat the lakers if it wasnt for the officials who were guided by the commisioner, there were times in the series were I could of sworn seeing the officials wearing the detroit jerseys.lol
