LOL that is such a stereotype. I have hardly ever heard any Australian say mate as much as Americans or Canadians impersonating Australians LOL.

I don't think the stereotype that Paul Hogan helped create did much for us, although it was a comedy and was meant to be seen as that. Usually Australians that have a propensity for saying mate are generally from Rural areas, or are less educated.
