Is it as good as the original? Any intestine chomping or other cool gory stuff going on? I've seen so many aweful zombie flicks I hesitate to check this one out unless someone can tell me it's worthwhile.

One of the most endearing things about Romero's zombies was that they were slow and VERY clumsy. Unless you fell down and let them jump on top of you, you could easily out run them. I don't know what to think about 'speedy zombies'.

I really loved this genre when I was a kid. The three Romero movies and the Fulci Classic 'Zombie' were the four best movies ever made, IMHO. The bugets for these films were not super high (or super low), but the special effesct were great.Originally posted by Evil Chris

I also liked the remake of the original and there were a few off beat films that were pretty good, like 'revenge of the living dead', the movie where the zombies only ate peoples' brains.
Unfortunately, for each one of the above, there are 100 low budget, worthless pieces of crap that are much worse than simply a waste of an hour and a half. I mean, you really have to be a fan of this genre to truly know what a bad movie really is.
There is no bad movie quite like a bad zombie movie.Comment

The first 10 minutes had me very excited. It had the potential to be a great movie.
But..
It seemed to be concerned with scares, after the first "everything seems calm then a zombie comes out of nowhere" scene I lost interest.
It seemed like the director was too concerned with instant scares then a overwhelming fear. That is what I loved about the original. The ideal of this constant lurking fear not, "we have to go turn on the generator level". It almost seems like a video game. In terms of horror movies its not bad. Its a nice "cover song" but not in anyway better.
The running zombies I could have overlooked if it wasn't a remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD. I really believe one of the main aspects of the story in the original is not the strength or the speed of the zombies but the numbers and the potential for infection. The remake was more of fighting super humans.
I liked it, although, but I cant help to compare it to the original and in that respect it failed.Comment
