Senator Kerry's speech

...

"Let there be no mistake: I will never hesitate to use force when it is required. Any attack will be met with a swift and certain response. I will never give any nation or international institution a veto over our national security. And I will build a stronger American military."

"We will double our special forces to conduct anti-terrorist operations. We will provide our troops with the newest weapons and technology to save their lives and win the battle."

Though his voting record somewhat belies these statements he at least is talking the talk that I approve. I will await what takes place over the next 3 months or so before I make a final decision about voting for Senator Kerry. It is still possible that...for the first time since I have been of voting age...I may abstain this next election.

Was a good speech, the dems have a good shot at it, I didn't think much of Kerry initially, but tonights production was very good, actually the whole convention seemed very successful.

He actually stumbled there and initially said, "to conduct terrorist", but quickly corrected himself. I thought that was funny.

It is terrible to say but I think that the vote for the lesser evil is better than no vote at all.

It amazes me how many people want to ignore his voting record and just believe that he is a new man. Although I do agree that he delivered an awesome speech I laughed at his attempts to make Republican ideas his own while at the same time not mentioning how he plans to fund all of his great programs.

Well what good does it do? Government actually depends on a large number of the voting population to NOT come out and vote.

Nobody cares if you do not vote. If it's like trying to make a statement or something, it has me baffled. If you can't vote FOR something, then definitely vote AGAINST something. The important thing is to cast that ballot.

Educate me further by explaining why you are of the opinion that "Government actually depends on a large number of the voting population to NOT come out and vote."

As for voting for or against something...if one is equally opposed to both candidates...how can one retain their own self respect by putting a stamp of approval on either of the candidates?

I'm not trying to prod you into an argument here, let me just say that, ok?

But yes I do believe that government depends somewhat on people's laziness or complacency in that they do not go out and vote. I'm not saying to put your stamp of approval on one or the other, but certainly vote against the lesser of two evils if you have to.

If over the next 3 months I conclude that there probably is a "lesser" I will vote.

If you support Bush, then you are ignoring his record as president. Bush has made America less safe and less economically secure as well as dividing the American people more than they have been divided in recent history.

This quote from Bush's favorite right wing Supreme Court justice talking about the online porn industry:

"this business could, consistent with the First Amendment, be banned entirely"
- Right Wing Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia

Kerry will never nominate an extremist right winger to the Supreme Court, Bush will only nominate an extremist.

Sure, a nice speech. He did stay on one consistent theme
that tied the whole thing together. For example:

"Let there be no mistake: I will never hesitate to use force when it is required."
(Unlike what I did in the senate, where I voted against
every military expenditure and every military action.
Do not be confusd about Iraq, "I was really voting just to
THREATEN the use of force. I did not vote to use force.'

"Any attack will be met with a swift and certain response. "
((Unlike what I did in the senate, where I advocated waiting
an additional 12 years, felling that 12 years wasn't long enough
to wait for Saddam to comply.)

"I will never give any nation or international institution a veto over our national security."
(Unlike what I did in the senate, where I argued that our sovereignty
should be subject to the UN.)

"And I will build a stronger American military."
(Unlike what I did in the senate, where I voted against
body armor, fuel, ammo, and other necesities for our troops.)

"We will provide our troops with the newest weapons and technology to save their lives and win the battle."
(Unlike in the Senate, where I voted to not provide ammo for the
existing weapons, much less new weapons.)

"We will double our special forces to conduct anti-terrorist operations."
(Unlike what I did in the Senate ....

I'm actually suprised that he stayed consistent during the course of
a whole entire speech, he normally sways from side to side in the
course of a sentence. However, given that the one consistent point
he had was that he promises to do the exactly the opposite of
what he's always done his whole life, I'm not too sure how much stock
I'd put in those promises.

Actually though, why can't he stand up there,
admit what he really believes, what he's done in the past, and defend
his position instead of trying to convince people that he is the
opposite of who he is? Oh yeah, he can't defend any of the positions
that he has taken because they are indefensible.
