WHY 2257 is bullshit

Do porn shops have to have 2257 info on pornos they rent or sel? Does the Spice Channel have to have 2257 info on movies they show? Hell as far as I know HBO doesn't have to have 2257 records for "Sex in the City" and they produce that show.

Also, "Sex In the City" sexual situations can be considered "simulated" and therefore wouldn't need 2257.

Re. porn video sales... In the proposed 2257 changes, distribution is specifically defined and exempted from the record keeping requirements that primary and secondary producers must follow. Adult stores will not need 2257 docs. Nor will ISPs and hosts. The changes specifically call out those who "update" and/or "control" websites. It's like that poster... "Uncle Sam Wants YOU!"

It's too bad. The old 2257 regulations were a webmaster's best friend. Even un-enforced it created a certain basic level of responsibility among content producers and adult webmasters. But the new regulations... In my opinion, these proposed changes are specifically designed to reduce the amount of porn on the net, by scareing webmasters away; particularly by making the changes retroactive. As a secondary producer who has bought most of his content through content brokers starting in 1997, I have, oh, maybe $200k worth of content that doesn't have all the ids, just an identified Custodian of Records. I guess this content will become unuseable in the USA in the near future?

I have to hand it to guys in Washington. Defining a "Secondary Producer" but requiring him to do all that "Primary Producers" do, is a very clever way to hurt the online porn industry without trampling first amendment rights too obviously, and at the same time appearing to be fighting child porn. It's brilliant really.

The sexual socialists are getting smarter.

Yes they do have the records, and the text for 2257 is displayed in the biginning of every porn movie. The current law is modified and it is crazy, but is not finalized.

Spam me with content providers who sell fully clothed women standing behind walls and inside buildings. Thanks

The French tried to do the same thing by creating a 97% tax on porn revenue. It got pulled at the last minute.

My god, I didn't hear about that. I would not worry, shit will always work out they control the whole net even if they do try.

Let's all agree on one thing the 2257 is there to protect our industry, it's just maybe a bit overtboard in it's current form.
