I use this stuff called "Afterbite".... it looks like a highlighter marker or something, but it does work. Takes the itch right out.

The city fogged for mosquitos this past week here.... last night they caught only 2 of the little buggers in the trap. A few weeks ago they caught over 70 in one night, which is pretty insane.

Winnipeg is now virtually mosquito-free. Weeee!

My husband scratches them until they look horrible, but after that, the itching is gone and they heal nicely. Strange, strange man.

If you have no Calomine lotion, do what my grandmother used to do: Get a teabag, (I suggest chamomile), cold-steep it for about five minutes, then set the bag on the bite. It helps.

haha G.P. you crack me up. Oh, did I miss a comma there?

Tea bags, eh? Hmm... And Afterbite. I'm heading to the store now, so I'll have to look that up.

Vancouver went pesticide-free, I believe, so no more fogging for insects unless nothing else works.

Tala, my man does the same thing. He complains about scars, then scratches them raw. *shakes head*

My grandma (who lived in Winnipeg) used to put calomine lotion on them, but I don't remember that helping at all.

Spraying of malathion around yards, neighbourhoods, and the city. It comes out in the form of a fog, and it kills bugs.

Winnipeg also sprays larvacide in early spring and late fall to lower the mosquito population.

I think you are confusing cures. Nail polish is for chiggers.

BODY CARE: Immediately upon entering the house remove all your clothes and wash them . Take a shower. Use alcohol around the arm pits and ankles and other tight body places. If you have bites the next day, as a kid the best thing I found to stop a chigger itch was to apply fingernail polish on the bite.

in some parts of the world (Saudi and Florida) I found simple baby oil to be effective at getting them to stay off my legs & arms....

I know it sounds strange but I swear it worked....not sure if it does now...

another one that a lot of people I know used effectively is Avon's Skin-so-Soft...
Now if only I knew an Avon lady.. hmm.

I use baby oil on my skin almost every day after my shower, so I don't think it's working.

So you have been bitten by a mosquito or similar blood sucker. Then have a look at the following tips to get some relief from the itch of a mosquito bite.

You can get some relief from the itching and discomfort by trying one of the following:

                                                    *
Applying soap on the area will bring instant relief.

                                                    *
Apply paste made of baking soda and water and apply directly to the affected area.

                                                    *
Make a paste of meat tenderizer and a little water, and apply to swollen bite area. Meat tenderizer breaks down the protein quickly and eases the itching and reaction to the bite.

                                                    *
Dab rubbing alcohol on bite as soon as possible and bites disappear like magic.

                                                    *
Apply a solution of 50/50 lime juice and water.

More information sent into the site reads:

Your tips on how to stop itching from mosquito bites is O.K. but the remedies are residual relief. There is another sure fire way to instantly stop the itching. As soon as itching starts dampen and fold several times a washcloth. Place it in the microwave as it is quicker or find some other way to heat it. (Tap water is usually not hot enough). The temperature should be hot but not enough to scald the skin and tolerable. Place the hot washcloth directly over the bite. The person will begin to feel a sharp, burning, and stinging pain exactly where the bite occurred. Keep the washcloth over the bite for about one minute while tolerating the pain. The mosquito saliva contains protein left inside the bite and the hot temperature neutralizes the protein which causes the sharp pain. After removing the washcloth, there will be no itching sensation. It works each time.

I was in Mexico, and lime and salt does the trick in taking away the itch, just sprinkle the salt on the lime and rub hard over the bite, so it breaks the skin. But not hard though. When I am away in a hot climate I carry this with me. What a life saver. But if your allergic to mosquito bites, unfortunately it won't take the swelling down.

The city fogged for mosquitos this past week here.... last night they caught only 2 of the little buggers in the trap. A few weeks ago they caught over 70 in one night, which is pretty insane.

Winnipeg is now virtually mosquito-free. Weeee!
Winnipeg has got to be the worst city I've ever been in for mosquitos. If they didn't fog, summers would be unbearable.

I think that Afterbite stuff is mostly alcohol. Dries up the skin & no more itching.

There is NO WAY I'm going down there, lol! Thankfully we also have a lot of bats that eat them

However, last year was a very dry hot spring & summer and our mosquito problem was negligeable..... but this year has been different. Lots of rain in early spring has brought them out in full force.

The fogging has now remedied that. :D

Contrary to what Environment Canada and Health Canada says, these people feel that spraying malathion is harmful to our health and the environment. Someone even got arrested the other night for blocking the fogging trucks from leaving the compound. It's a hot issue.

to make it stop itching take your finger nail and press down on it, from 2 directions so you make kind of like a little "X" across it, dont press hard enough to break the skin but press hard enough to where its gonna leave an indentation

                                                                                                it'll stop itching shortly after
