My ex girlfriend had a ferret named Lucy. When she (the girlfriend) went away to Calgary for 2 weeks she asked me to go to her house and check on Lucy, give her water etc. She said "Wait about 4 or 5 days, then go over and see her. She's got enough food & water in her cage til then."

My car wasn't working right at the time, so I took a cab over there, 5 days just like she said, ran in...... and found lucy stiff as a board.

I put her in a plastic bag and put the bag in the garage near the garbage cans. Didn't know what else to do. Jumped in the cab and went home. When the girlfriend got home she didn't seem too broken up about it at all. Weird.

That's about the extent of my experience with ferrets.

Whoa, experienced ferret owner alert! This is obviously the man to ask.. .

Considered calling the dealer or breeder or an animal hospital?
Time is of the essence.

I took him to the vet. NO obstructions at all in his tummy or intestines. That was my main thought and now I'm just stumped. His fecal test came out negative...but he has some abnormal bacteria in his upper GI tract. I'm giving him antibiotics but he's still not eating and losing weight fast. =( He just lays around.

I'm force feeding him gerber chicken and turkey and some laxatone as well as some nutra cal...but nothing. He's drinking pretty good but may be a tad dehydrated. I'm just really really worried about him not eating and having liver damage. I dunno what else to do. =( I saw him eat a few kibbles on his own with ferretone on them...but just maybe 2 or three. He's got wicked diarrhea when he does go...which is maybe once a day. He's only a year old. When he does come out of the cage...he just goes under my bed and goes to sleep...which is REALLY not right for him...he never sleeps outside the cage.

I have 4 at the moment. One with about $2500 worth of visits to the vet.

I have to go to a wedding in 5 minutes.

Hit me up on ICQ - 278138509 and I can share what I know when I get back. These could be a few different things all of which are quite common. Look up ECE.

First question. Have you recently added a new little ferret to the mix?

I've not added any new ferrets, I have not taken them out of the house, I have not added any new animals at all.

My daughter gave him a few (more than she should have) apple peels. I've never given those to him...just a few chunks of the inside here and there, never in a large amount. So, it could be the skins but I'd think that would have shown on the xray.

My boyfriend had a really really bad stomach virus a week and a half ago and this is about the time he started getting sick...well maybe it's been two weeks cause he has lost about a third of his body weight. I just know for CERTAIN that he has not eaten really anything on his own since Tuesday night. =(

I'll add ya to my ICQ and if you could message me when you're around, that would be awesome!

If you can smell his ferret without holding it up to your face, then he's not cleaning them enough.

Mine are in my room and I wash their bedding twice a week and change their boxes daily and they don't stink.
