My brother has been building a race truck for a number of years. 3 days ago he was almost done. He put it on the trailer to take it to a driveline shop to finish the truck. Finally, after years and years of hard work, $25,000 invested, blood sweat and tears, this truck was about to be COMPLETED.

Driving down the freeway, the ride gets a little bumpy, then severely bumpy. Looking in the review mirror, he sees his truck rolling off his trailer, at 55mph.

The truck goes straight for a while, veers right, and then sideswipes a cement barrier on the right hand side. The right front rim gets broken, the tire goes flat, now past the barrier the truck makes a sharp right hand turn directly into a 75 foot light pole at about 55mph.

And the result can be seen here....

The truck is beyond repair. The frame is crumpled and mangled beyond repair an a few different places. These pictures don't do it justice,

Its a parts truck now....can't be repaired. But now he knows to have overly redundant methods to secure the truck on the trailer. I guess 2 of the broke / disengaged and that gave the other ones plenty of wiggle room to break free.

Two straps failed, in different ways (the ones around the front tires). That gave the 2 rear straps that were still intact too much wiggle room.

that really sucks man, but you are so lucky no one was hit by the truck and killed.

I hope he wasn't using those little orange straps in the bottom right connor of the one pic as they aren't even strong enough to hold a motorcycle. This is a good argument to use booth chains and straps..

But it looks like a lot of stuff can be salvaged for the next one.. but that truly sucks.

Yeah it was a bit ugly. I lied when I said it was on its way to get its last work done before being ready to race. It was going to be painted in a few weeks, but you don't think about that much until you're done with everything else.
