Passing through that state earlier this month I saw something a bit disturbing... There were (on 2 different occasions) a car pulled over by 3-4 marked and unmarled cop cars... each time they had all these people's luggage out, hood open and the people standing on the side of the road.
Is this normal police activity there in that state? or were these people up to no good? They looked like normal everyday people... nothing out of the ordinary... one car pulled over even had children with them. What gives? I got nailed in New Mexico for speeding and they just gave me a ticket and sent me on my way... Kinda curious about this. |

I hate driving through Oklahoma. I would never go through it again unless I absolutely had to.
Going through with my friends once, we stopped to buy some soft drinks and snacks at a convenience store/gas station. We happened to have some cups, so we poured the soda into cups. The old biddies running the store phoned the sherriff to say we were "mixing drinks" in their parking lot... We were checked out; my friend was arrested and held for 3 days and our vehicle impounded because, although he had a bill of sale for the vehicle, he hadn't yet had the title transferred and they couldn't contact the previous owner to verify that it was a valid transaction. I won't say all Okies are ignorant hicks... but there's too high a percentage. |

Bible belt.....
Since the ban on ephedra in Oklahoma, tons of people have been driving to Kansas to buy the cold meds with it, and driving back to make Meth. If you buy more than 2 packs, the store clerks report you to local police, and they then tell OK police your car.. Not sure what part of OK you were in, but I do know this is happening a lot. |

Yes fortunately they do let adult webmasters reside in Oklahoma, that is if only you dont tell them what you do.
The reason the Highway patrol and sheriff deputies pull people over like that is because we have major highways that intersect our state. I-35 goes north and south all the way through the United States and I-40 which runs east and west across the united states, both which intersect in downtown OKC. Alot of drug smuggling comes through Oklahoma through both of these highways, and to get from any side of the country to the other you would have to drive through Oklahoma, unless you took a scenic tour to get there. And no Oklahoma is not in the "Bible Belt". Theres not an over abundance of "hicks" around Oklahoma, you would have to go more east if you really wanted to find "hicks". |

That's a rediculous statement about the ephedra. They limit the amount of sales because of meth labs. You can buy up to 3 products with ephedra in it on one transaction. They don't report you to anyone and there is no law requiring them to report you to anyone. They simply won't sell you more than three because of a prompt in the registers for all major retailers and drugstores that won't allow more than 3 to be sold during one transaction.
As far as people getting pulled out of their car. It could have been anything. There could have been a manhunt going on since we do have a max security federal prison here and have and do have some serious criminals in it. We also have a lot of traffic that goes through Oklahoma due to the two major Interstates that intersect through the middle of the state. So, to see someone pulled out of their car for it to be searched is actually quite reassuring considering the state of the nation's security lately. I would rather them be safe than sorry. You also have to remember the Federal Building bombing that occurred here a few years back and that any suspicious activity whatsoever is scrutinized a bit closer now. |

You should see the downtown area at night. It's gorgeous especially the memorial area. We're uploading a gallery of memorial photos we shot in February that i'll post a link to shortly

Had to scale the sizes down with this program for some reason so they aren't all super detailed but it's still a neat place The two large walls with the reflecting pool in between represents the moment of time that passed from when life was normal and life was chaos. The truck McVeigh drove was parked on a street that was precisely where the reflecting pool is now. The tree was completely undamaged in the bombing and is called the Survivors Tree because that's where everyone congregated that made it out alive. The wall with handprints on it is the children's wall dedication to the victims and survivors. The chairs are there for each of the victims and is in the place within the building they were supposed to be when the bomb went off. |

This image shows the wall at 9:03 when the bombing had transpired and chaos was erupting and the red building in the background is the jail. Terry Nichols was placed in a cell with a window that faced the bombing memorial so every time he looked out he could see the devastation of the site before they built the memorial and reflect on what had been done after the memorial was built. |

Oklahoma and Kansas both get fat government grants for dug interdiction. They are major thoroughfares for drug traffickers.

I drive the turnpike every week and I don't see normal highway patrol cars hardly the entire time that I have been in college. Camaros, Tahoes, A ford that looks like a Mercury and of course the Caprice type squad cars, all of which are not marked. Try driving on oklahoms turnpike before/after a holiday. They WILL pull you over for not having on a seat belt and depending on the cop they might pull you over for being on a cell phone.
The bullshit that the fucking high way patrols put you through when you are pulled over is crazy. Cop: "Can I search your car?" Me: "No, what for?" Cop: "There are a lot of drugs moved up and down this turnpike" Me "So what does that have to do with me?" Cop: "You can let me search the car now or you can wait until the K-9 Unit arrives" They will take EVERYTHING out including your fucking seats, then give you a huge fucking ticket that you have to pay in some hick ass town that is 60-80 mintues away from Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Then you have to pay a fucking 3.50 toll both ways. If you travel @ night you will see unmarked cars on the side of the road with all their lights off like they are broken down cars or hiding in construction/rest stops. I love my state but the h.w. patrol and the cops here suck. |

In common with other places, products which included it were pulled from the stores in this part of SE KS (about an hour's drive from Tulsa). EphedRINE exists only in some forms of Ephedra. It appears in various cold medicines, such as the stronger versions of Sudafed, making them popular with the mom-and-pop meth labs in (mainly) rural areas. I'm not sure the regulations are identical, but Kansas has similar laws to Oklahoma, namely that over-the-counter pills containing ephedrine must be kept behind a service counter; quantities that may be purchased are limited; ID is required and and a registry must be signed. |
