True to a certain point. I know.

But I have also met a lot of people at the conventions I did attend and most really never get back to you. Granted, setting up meetings beforehand would help that, as you'd know already that you have common interests.

Still, by and large, many people do a lot of talking but when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is, they become awefully silent all of a sudden.

Besides, I have plenty of business at the moment, so don't have time to waste on anything that's potentially fruitless.

I will attend convertions again at some point, ofcourse. I love them and they're a great tax deductable get-away :)

Very True,
a lot of people prefer to meet you face to face before doing business with you and then the traffic just comes faster, even during the show :Graucho

Peaches 07-22-2004 09:33 AM

hehehe - from 12Clicks on another board - all too true for some folks:

We're talking InterNext here. 1% of the attendees are business people. The rest are GFY webmasters who think they are part of this biz. If I offended anyone with this bold statement, get a real job ;)

Not worth it. Too big, too many people. If I were ever to attend anything for the mere purpose of getting some business done, it'd be some of the smaller conventions with a higher price tag, where you don't need to sort through the riff-raff to get to the player.

Just my :2 cents: ofcourse. Opinions differ :)

SleazeQueen 07-22-2004 09:45 AM

Listen to this man...You'll be sitting there looking like a fool at the bar if you don't know anybody. Plus if you're a noob, you wouldn't be able to afford drinks at that bar because they were HELLA HIGH! It would be VERY intimidating for a first show newbie..It's nothing like Las Vegas and it's more of an "in crowd" thing...and if you ain't on the "in" you ain't gonna have any fun.

I'm glad I cut my teeth in vegas first.

edit....Plus you can't get a decent breakfast for under $21...The breakfast buffet is the ONLY way to go in the morning.

and another thing. Don't even think about catching a cab somewhere and getting something to eat unless it's fast food and the cab is waiting for you when you come out..Me and keev made that mistake and went to denny's. It took us over an hour in that hot ass sun to finally get a fucking cab back to the hotel.

A great show to attend , and HUGE for business.
one of my favourite shows overall.

Can't see how anyone serious about making $$$ and growing
a company would skip a show of that Magnitude because they
"don't like the weather "
doesn't make sense.

I know people that would go to a Pool party in Alaska if
the Business was there. lol

Not having enough cash to attend is another thing.
For someone starting out.... a show of that size is worth
maybe trying to find the cash to attend. Make the moves
and take the risk to try and grow what you put soo much
time and effort into on a daily basis.

It's worth it ! :2 cents:

Tony- You are absolutely right! Hell, I attended a show before I even opened my first site. Why? To Learn!

Beg borrow or steal, but make your way there- it's the best education in this business, if you open your eyes and ears.

Sosa 07-22-2004 09:52 AM

Have a trip planned to goto denver for 3 days with friends.

czarina 07-22-2004 09:53 AM

I live in Mexico 50% of the year... and this is these months are that lucky half.

Sure...

I am in Arizona... and this Internext is in Florida... I do not like to fly and it is too far to drive for a few days. So I just go to the one in Vegas... only 3 1/2 hours away. ;)

3. It's expensive and will put my business on halt for a week.
4. I probably won't get invited to the private parties, so might as well just stay at home :)
5. It's too hot in Florida this time of year.

lame excuses

People prefer to do business with people they've met in person. Icq & email are no replacement for what you learn about a person in a 10 minute face to face conversation.

Parties are irrelevant, if you are serious about your business you will go to the shows

we went to the mall last time a day before the show and looked for a cab like an hour and a half :glugglug

because that's too far for me:(

Quickdraw 07-22-2004 10:12 AM

From what I have seen on this thread--

If you don't know anyone, you'll be the loner in the corner.

If you don't know anyone, you should go so you can get to know others. But you will still probably be the loner in th corner, lol

I have a pass, just undecided, I know only a few folks, but noone knows me :( :) Of course, except for the guys that made a pass available to me :Graucho But I highly doubt they want me hanging around them for that long.:1orglaugh

But hey, if I'm alone in the corner I can go back to my room and get some work done, maybe not so bad

Don't feel bad.. you will still have a good time. I didn't know anyone the first one I went to, met some real cool people and had a GREAT time and partied my ass off. Most people at Internext are really cool :thumbsup

Firehorse 07-22-2004 11:28 AM

Florida was great last year and I will miss it this year. We have too much going on in mainstream and adult, and our offline businesses, and the most important reason is family committments.

We will be in Vegas though! :thumbsup

koreanbbque 07-22-2004 11:30 AM

Because LA Mike runs a sweatshop and doesn't let his engineeers see the light of day!!!

LOL

j/k because I have a feeling that I wouldn't come back alive. Adrian said that he did way more drinking and partying at the Florida show than in Vegas and we did a nice amount of drinking in Vegas.

Elli 07-22-2004 11:33 AM

Well I don't like Florida, I'd rather stay at home and get work done, and I'm going to Florida in the fall anyway, so why go twice?

I prefer Vegas much more. There's something about the New York New York in the winter time... :)

Webmaster_Logic 07-22-2004 11:35 AM

My wedding is in november so i got to save save save:thumbsup

dirtydesignz 07-22-2004 11:46 AM

Business is great and we live in Steamboat Springs, no reason I can think of to leave this place :) Besides, I have a tremedous fear of bugs (seriously) and I hear they are HUGE in Florida :(

mikesouth 07-22-2004 12:00 PM

Plain and simple ROI
I get a free hotel room and it still isnt worth it to me. The show is not what it used to be and I can make more money staying home or I can have more fun going to my beach house and going offshore fishing.

Not lame at all.
It's a matter of pros and cons. While you can see a lot of pros, I, for my business, can't. Not at the moment anyway. It's simply not worth it for me to go. And trust you me, for 80% of the attendees it won't be either :)

And yes, you are right that people prefer to do business with people they've met. Makes sense. But there are better ways to meet up than at big expos.

emmanuelle 07-22-2004 12:58 PM

We have 4 meetings scheduled for Florida, each of which will be a huge opportunity for our company.
Attending the show is making it easy for people to do business with us. No brainer

Ross 07-22-2004 01:33 PM

I won't be there coz me, my girl, my buddy and his girl are all leave to go to Mallorca on Saturday for a nice vacation :)

Vegas is the big one!! You bet your ass I'll be there!!

nastyking 07-22-2004 01:35 PM

i won't be there cause the sister of my brother has a romance with the daugher of my father

I pay my own way for everything - There's not a person in this world who can question that. I don't rely on bigger companies to send me places, can you say the same?

AVM 07-22-2004 01:47 PM

Because I don't know anyone, and it would be embaressing when someone says -

"Hey who are you, whats your name on GFY?". ....

"Oh, Im Mike, and on GFY go by the name AVM".....

"Who?, hmm big board, let me know what program you run, maybe I'll remember"....

"Actually, I just barely got my foot in the adult industry. I work primarily in high end domain names. Reselling, ppc monetization, development, etc. I have about six figures in domains"...

"Is that so, well very good, best of luck with all that eh, yeah, domainer thingy. But, well, it's time for me to get going, have a great time"....

Dialogue = Me = OWNED. :(

thats funny, I have been in this biz 5 years 3 full time, support an ever growing family on one income and have never attended a show, oh and I also just started up some paysites and an affiliate program so I guess your theory on that is way off base. I have a shit load of contact and have met only a couple of them face to face but do big $ deals with them everyday. People who think going ot the shows is required just crack me up. Its been my experiance that those people are the ones with no life and need the shows as a release and vacation.

I disagree. With a show that size....Most people are too busy running from place to place...Private party to private party...And the average show newbie is way too intimitated to get in the middle of a bunch of people and a situation like that. They will end up sitting around all day.

A smaller show still brings out some key players and they are more apt to take the time to get to know and help you.

If you are a newbie...I would not even think of attending this show UNLESS you already have an in with somebody who can hold your hand a hook you up.

I totally agree with you. I've been going to adult conventions for 5 years or so. All of my best business deals have come from the smaller shows. When I go to the bigger shows, I end up partying the whole time and sleeping late. I'm not saying you won't get any deals done there, but in general, I think one will get more done at the smaller more personal shows. My favorite show was CyberNet in New Orleans. If you want to see what it was like, check out our video footage at http://www.d-moneyshow.com/archives/...s_may2000.html

And the weather in Florida in August is like a dirty armpit.

And I don't like AVN all that much anymore.

Nice program- When do you expect to start accepting Visa? :1orglaugh

Evil Chris 07-22-2004 02:02 PM

I limit myself to one Internext per year. The January show.
Not because I get a ton of biz done there, but because it's in the middle of a cold Montreal winter, and the break is welcome. :)

Small to mid-size shows is where most lower level business gets done nowadays.

Higher end biz? Email, ICQ, telephone. :winkwink:

baddog 07-22-2004 02:03 PM

Florida+August= high humidity = no baddog

plus I have a mainstream tradeshow in Vegas to attend

In about a week. but hell with 50 new signups already this month and only a couple people promoting I guess its not really required huh.

Im curious, do you actually own anything or just a pawn for someone who matters??

Its not like that at all. Its just about sitting around and having some drinks and getting to know people. Everyone there does the same things you do.. Just a bit differently.

You HAVE to go to the shows if you want to maximize your potential. Its great to get to know people and nobody is trying to OWN anyone. I talk to the millionares in one breath and the guy that rode his horse to the show the next. I dont care cuz I may need either of them for help someday or may work a deal with anyone of them down the road.

The shows helped me and my company (silvercash) grow immensly over the years.
