Dell website misstake

Some time ago Dell made a misstake on their website, instead of putting a $699 price they put a $69.9 price on one of their products. Funny thing is that you could really do the purchase for that amount, one would think that the price would be corrected on the order page but no, it was still the same.
My friend told me he ordered 10 pieces, total $699 (normally price for 1 piece), now he says Dell is forced to sell it to him at the purchase price ($69.9 a piece). My question: is he right or is he full of crap? I don't believe a word he says and honestly i think he is trying to sell me some stolen stuff.

he might be lying about what happened but i know that if you go to a store and they have an item mismarked for cheaper then they have to sell it for what it says on the price tag.

ive scored a few deals like that myself.

He's wrong.

Dell makes mistakes on a regular basis, and they bunk out of the deal with a call or email to the customer when they find out.

They've got terms on their website for issues like that

I think something similar happened with some PDA's they were selling at one time. That was quite a while ago though. Never heard about the PC thing.

highly unlikely, it happens all the time to these online retailers. Most of the time they just send an email later on saying Sorry for the mistake your order has been canceled.

they dont have to sell the product for 69 ... it was a mistake and under law he can't force them to sell him the 10 pieces for the price of 1

Legally I have no idea if they have to sell it for that price. It's usually based on company policy, I think.

For example, my cousin once bought a whole bunch of office chairs at a PACE Club (like Sam's) for like $2 each when they were supposed to be marked $20. And I got a few whole chickens at a grocery store once because they were marked $.39 each instead of $3.90.

But several months ago when I went to buy a couple of computer cases at CompUSA, they had the cases I wanted marked $99.95 and when I got to the register it charged me $149.95. I could have paid the extra, but I was pretty upset because they had a massive display of the cases out front plainly marked $99.95 and I was pretty happy with the price. Well, anyway, instead of giving me the cases at $99.95 each they insisted they wanted me to pay the $149.95 so I just walked out. They not only lost a $300 sale that day, but they lost out on the two laptops I purchased a couple of months later, when I went to Best Buy instead.

Full of crap, ive seen companies do it twice. They just send you an email informing you of the error and cancel the order.

You can't do anything about it, they have a right not to sell you the product
