Here too. About 7 seconds of shaking and I am in a very sturdy concrete building.

Vancouver Canada.. just along the beach.

We're at the northern end of the San Andreas fault... so we get quakes all day every day, it's just that we don't usually feel them. That's the 3rd time I've felt that now They predict that within 200 years, we'll have a major one that'll basically just level the place. With the predictions for California for September... who knows, it might be sooner |

Man, your post freaked me out a bit. With all the talk of the "Big One" coming by Sept I thought this may have been it or the start of it anyways.

Scares me to think about what would happen to this country as a whole if what they are predicting should occur. Not fun to think about.

"dozens of reports coming in to news 1130 from people being woken up and car alarms being set off as a minor tremor has shaken up the lower mainland..."

Yup, I'm definitely not the only one. That's the report on a local radio station. Freaky man... I hate when the ground moves. |

Guess I need to call the cousins in Campbell River tomorrow!

I felt absolutely nothing here. Some areas out here are on bedrock, though. My mom was working at a stable during the really big one in Seattle, and she said the horses didn't even feel it, even though everyone else in town felt it. WOOT here's to not feeling the earthquake!

he he he.. about 15 years ago there was a somewhat major quake.. maybe a 7 something or so.. I was working in a high rise on the 7th floor... smoking (back before the laws were in place), drinking a ton of coffee... the room started to shake... I didn't know what was going on.. I figured I needed to de-stress and that it was just me... I went down the hall and asked a couple peopel and they said they didn't feel anything... It was a couple hours before we heard that in fact it had been an earthquake...

We get them a lot actually and don't even notice... I wouldn't worry about it as the more smaller ones we get the better it is as it relieves the pressure on the plates. |

That's why on 2/29/01 Seattle was spared. That was like a 6.8 I believe we had here (epicenter just 90 miles south of Seattle), but it was really deep. When it hit that morning and I was getting tossed around my apartment (had just got up and had nada on..so was TRYING to get something on to run outside), I thought that half of Seattle had to be leveled because the quake had hit with 3 distinct waves..the first the usual sort of "jiggling" that only lasty 4 or 5 secs..and then WHAM like someone had pulled the carpet out of under you followed by another one..the last two shakers lasted about 40 secs..but it seemed like 40 friggin mins! We were SOOOO lucky that the quake was so deep! |

This earthquake occurred near the site of a M=5.8 event on Thursday, 15 July 2004. Hmm... should we be concerned that a slightly smaller earthquake happened just a few days earlier in the same area? I'm no expert but I know an earthquake followed by a bigger earthquake shortly after usually isn't a good sign. |

But I do still find this stuff interesting, so I keep checking it. They've been doing a great job of updating the various sites with info about how far it reached and stuff. |
