Are individual IPs important for SEO?

I've always used hosting that gave me an individual IP for each domain. I'm looking at switching, but apparently not everyone does this. For certain sites, I will need different IPs regardless, but in general, would having the same IP for some sites impact search engine optimization at all?

It's better to use diffrent IP's and diffrent IP blocks.

It's better, but I've done well both ways.

Ask around and you'll hear both.

A lot of hosts these days seem to prefer virtual hosting when it comes to having multiple domains on a server, so you'll often be limited to one or two IP's.

IP's cost money. And they're becoming harder and harder to get whole blocks..... which is why its not a bad idea to have a couple of accounts with different hosts (different hosts, different IP addresses) to bounce off of....
