Need help RE: setting up a wireless network
I need some help please...
Currently, I have my cable modem hooked up to a wireless router. I have a laptop with integrated wireless connected to the internet through the router. I just set up a new PC in my house (fresh install of WinXp Pro w/SP1), and I have a Wireless USB adapter (plugs into the USB port for wireless access). Everything seems to be installed and configured fine, yet the adapter won't pick up the signal from the router. It simply says no connection is available. When I view the properties of the Wireless Network Connection, there's no "Wireless Networks" tab. I know the adapter and the signal are fine because I've used the adapter on a different PC in this same room. Anyone have an idea why this wouldn't work? Any help will be very appreciated...

If you right-click on the wireless icon and click on "View Available Wireless Networks", and nothing comes up, then you have a problem with your card. (Assuming you KNOW that you're router is working correctly). Possibly a compatability problem, or it is just not installed correctly.
Does it show up in device manager with any errors? Have you tried restarting your router? Disabling / Re-enabling your wireless card? Good luck man, keep us updated. |

The router works fine. I'm connected to the net through it right now. And as far as I know, the card is fine too. It worked fine on my old PC. Disabling and then re-enabling it gives me a "Connection Failed" message. I tried restarting my router earlier, but I'll give it another shot. Thanks!

Psyko,
Have you checked and rechecked security settings. Also how about DHCP settings. Allowing more than one user? Good luck...

I had a similar problem with my laptop ... that's why to this day my wireless connection is called "Wireless Network Connection 2". I had to remove the original network connection and then add a new one and re-specify my wireless adapter. That might work for ya. |

With Linksys there is a separate TAB for DHCP. Check the router control panel settings. If it is limited to one client that may be the problem.

I had the same basic problem, and then I made the mistake of calling the support line..
But I finally got it running. Congrats. Now you can work on the shitter.
