    Pigs are allot smarter than we think?

    A few summers back I got to know these six pigs and feed them every morning leftover slop from around the ranch I was working for at the time. I could go in the pig pen feed them and play with them as funny as that seems. As the summer came to a close I had to butcher the pigs that have become my friends so everyone on the ranch would have pork for their breakfast. How come when I went in the pen to kill them with a 22 rifle they could sense I was up to no good and I had to be sneaky? they have never seen a rifle before so I must have been giving off signals that gave it away. It took us all day to trick the six pigs and it should have been at least half days slaughter. I think I am emotionally scared from the squeals since I gave them all names etc. LOL They were smart enough to know their names as well. I thought of this memory because I just read an article in the paper about this lady being charged in north Florida for being cruel to her pig! I'd share that with

                                                      UGh, that reminds me of the smell of the slaughterhouse at Stockton when we drove through town.. blood and death and just awfulness.

                                                      Pigs are super smart. I heard somewhere they're more trainable than dogs, even. But hey, they taste good and are pretty darn efficient as a food source, so there you have it.

I had to sneak up behind each pig and put the slug right behind it's ear. Once they drop to their knees I sliced their throats form ear to ear with a knife and waited til they suffocated on their own blood & we still had to butcher my buddies. That and loud sequels was enough to mark that on my mental Callander!! That is one part about my summer job on a 5000 acre ranch in Steamboat Springs, CO I do not miss. It is a far cry from what I do know

                                                                          When you think about how discusting, unsanitary, and downright foul pig pens are and that you're eating them critters, shit just the thought of that makes me want to go and barf.

                                                                          Supermarkets make the end product look so wonderful. If they put the whole dead animal on the shelf and you had to see what you're really about to eat, 99% of the people could no longer eat meat.

                                                                                                                                      Indeed, I had to endure a new set of pig slaughters the next summer I worked on the ranch but I knew what to expect and did not get close to them and we had a better method of killing them. Much easier!

I used to hang out with this pig in San Marcos , Texas.. his name was ralph , he did tricks and shows for this place callled aquarena springs. I would cruise there once a week on his off day and hang out at his "area"..we would eat chocolate and licorice whips and I would talk to him. The passerbys thought I was nuts
