Good call there. As it was pointed out, Honda manufactures Acuras.

Dildozer, if you're buying the car next year, wait for the new Mustang '05. It's gorgeous, powerful and inexpensive.

some, yes. most, no.

change the stang mach 1 or gt to an svt cobra and there's no competition on that list.

perfectodollars-gabrio 07-16-2004 12:06 AM

get the new Subaru, i owned the WRX 3 and it was a great ride, perfect for going in the snow aswell, very fun and powerful to drive - the STI is even more powerful :)

fuzebox 07-16-2004 12:10 AM

Hate FWD and AWD, but the RWD cars you have posted are less than inspiring...

No Bimmers on the list? :(

Can't buy used?

How about a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo, you can get one with around 400+ horsepower for around 20k. Thats what I own and wouldn't drive anything else.

Subaru WRX STi for sure:thumbsup

Adultnet 07-16-2004 05:49 AM

I would go for Nissan 350Z

Dildozer 07-16-2004 06:00 AM

Fuck that i'll try them all, i mean half the fun is trying other makes.

The Mach1 is a nice car indeed and it's fast, but i'm looking at 2005 models.

I wanna buy new cars, i don't care much for the old supras,

bimmers or audi's are a bit too old for my taste.

I've dreamt about the 350Z for a long time, but i guess the close second is the STi followed by either the G35 and the S2000.

I can't say much for a Nissan 350z because I never test drove it, but I can tell you for sure that the g35 is a bad choice.

It has 280 horsepower which you don't feel, I beat g35's in my 2000 328Ci. The car's handling is nothing like a bmw. There shouldn't be any rear seats in it either since I cant even sit there without twisting my neck to the side and Im only 6'1" not exactly super tall. There is laughable trunk space, there is no full size spare, the only good thing about it is the price. You can get one fully loaded for 24 months under $600/mo. but its definitely not a great ride.

I'd say test drive a few BMW's if you havent, dont let the tech specs on paper fool you, get a feel for the car. Find the car you absolutely love even if its out of your league then get a car that most closely resembles it. In my opinion for the money you wont get a better car than a BMW, and you will have a lot of fun in the snow with RWD. I know I did when we had plenty of snow in NY this winter and I had on summer tires :thumbsup

Anyway, just my opinion.

The SRT-4 really is a decent vehicle for 20k. You can drop 2-3k in mods and still be below the base price for most of the other vehicles in the list.

http://www.modernracer.com/dodgeneonsrt4.html

I'm still keeping my vote with the STi though. Of couse, I'm biased. :)

zanycash Pete 07-16-2004 05:47 PM

Bump! :glugglug

jade_dragon 07-16-2004 07:44 PM

350z is way to common and untill you get a super charger or turbo kit which are all being rushed into production most honda civics someone has spent over 6k in in a real shop will be eating you. It is also a cheap version of the G35 which is an american attempt at the GT-R 35.

S2000 is not bad because it is honda's first rwd sports car as some people say, because it is actually the second, the nsx was first. Honda's are "fun" cars to drive much like go-carts. Even with a super charger, rising rate fuel pressure regulator, slicks, a professional driver, intake, exhaust and fuel rail she STILL wouldn't hit 13.00 in the 1/4. Sorry WAY to limited for the money. The F20c is the most efficient production motor pound for pound on the planet but what you get is all you can get out of it basically, "perfect" from the factory.

Don't get me started on the 4g63 motor from dodge/mitsubishi. It is basically the LT1 of the import world in terms of reliability and ease of rebuild. Crank walk is a HUGE problem in those motors be it the Eclipse GS-T/GTX, Lancer Evolution or the Neon. The 16g turbo minus the one found on the Evo III are complete crap and even that one has to be rebuilt more than most other turbines on the market. They make power but this motor is crap. (mitsubishi has for years denied that the crank walk was a product of bad engineering and now mercedes is not allowing mitsu to honor warantees on 4g63 powered evo if they think it has been used in a race event!) Besides why would you want to make that much power on a fwd? You can get the same motor on a 4wd chasis with much better looks and amenities from an evo, NOT a 7 or 8 but from the older evos which an ICI can bring over for you.

G35 is a watered down version of the Nissan Skyline GT-R 35. If you are going to get it you should have just bought an older GT-R like a 32-34, more bang for the buck.

The STI is a good car I have seen them hit 13's with very little work even with an auto transmission. I have a few customers with them and we were not suprised at all at how hard they are hitting for little money.

RX-8........ there is a reason the Turbo II and the 3rd gen TT were the best selling rotoray powered vehicle and that was because without boost the 1.3 litre motor is a technological marvel but more useful as a paper weight.

210 hp mach1 mustang hunh....... Honda/Acura Integra Type R was making that much out of 4 cyl in the late 90's with 1.8 litres of displacement and was MUCH lighter than that Pony Car, also cost about 2-4g less.

And for 20k I could have had your 2jzgte converted to a single T66 turbine and pushed you WAY above 400 horses. I have seen people spent a little over that and push 1000 horses on 93 octane.

I will not talk about the other cars because people will flame and my expertise is with Japanese cars first and foremost. If you are looking for more info on what Jap cars can and do hit www.monkeymotorsports.com shoot me an email. We will be shooting a television show where they let my shop loose on a RX-7 this week so it may take a day or so to get back to you because they are eating a lot of my worker's time.
