Kobe = Jail

adhesive 07-15-2004 03:03 PM

I can't believe people actually think the Lakers are good still. The West is damn tough and Kobe has never done it on his own. Let's not forget the most important fact of all: Kobe wanting to be the man with Shaq around made the Lakers a collection of superstars that got destroyed by a better team. Odom is awesome and Kobe will probably stifle him. Kobe may be the most skilled player in the game, but his narcissism makes him a glorified Jerry Stackhouse.

build a team around Kobe ... and then it's a matter of time before the Lakeshow gets goin again....

the only concern is.. damn... if only theLogo was still around.. he's able to build a team up from anything.

mitch kupchek sux... there better be a trade soon... we need a BIG.

Everthing was built around Shaq do in part of the triangle offense as it was design to go through him.

Rudy T will build around Kobe if he's around to play:uhoh , next season will be interesting.

Shaq...was an over paid cry baby...so happy to see his fat ass go. Why could he just play the game and keep his big mouth shut?

As far as I am concerned he dragged the lakers down.....glad to see a shake up and some fresh "wanna play" blood at a fraction of the cost and all the headaches

Kobe had Shaq and Phil Jackson fired. If he doesnt come through for the lakers he's going to look like a total idiot.

For all you people saying shaq is an idiot and all that shit, you fucking wish! Shaq is the most dominant center, possibly player, in the game. He's an easy going guy who puts up 20+ points 12 seasons straight and Kobe's a bitch who wines and complains if the spot light isnt on him 24/7.

Who the hell said the lakers have no depth? Kareem rush, derick fisher, rick fox, luke walton, horace grant, etc. They had all the depth a team could ask for.

Shaq is going to have the last laugh on this one. Kobe is going to find out just how hard things are when you can't point the finger at somebody else. He's going to turn into a Vince Carter. No heart, and constantly complains.

Shaw is going to dominate the east and once again be a champion!

<--- is no longer a laker fan and follows shaq to Miami. lol

Miami is not going to win a championship any time soon... Shaq is getting old and the injurys are catching up... Last year he had his worst season point average. He probably has 3 good years left. While kobe is still young (26) and LA is getting back 2 pretty good ball players back at the age of 24' plus a future #1 pick... So they do have a better future.

Shaq has heart and something to prove. Not to mention he will completely dominate his position in the east unlike in the west. He also has Eddie Jones back as his side kick and an organization who appreciates him. You can't write shaq off that quickly. He's still healthy and can still dominate. You're right that Lakers are a younger team, but take the Vince Carter example, Vince has all the time in the world, will he win a championship? NEVER.

I hope not. It's a little different when this player helps win you championships. Vince Carter hasn't had that feeling of a championship. When the Lakers won their titles, it wasn't just Shaq, Kobe was the other big piece of that puzzle.

I think it's jumping the gun too quick to start talking of a champion like he's the next Vince Carter. He's earned his stripes at least, though he did have Shaq to help.

It's funny, I'd say the Lakers are only a notch better then the Clippers right now if no other deals go down for each team. If the Clippers would have gotten Kobe, people would talk about how he's going to help them to a championship and turn that team around. The funny part is that considering the two teams are almost equal in talent, you'd have to say that the Lakers would have the better chance between the 2 teams with Kobe on their team. Experience is hard to replace. Building around a seasoned team of champion players will always have the edge over building around a team like the Clippers.

Anyway, Divacs isn't the answer for the Lakers, though I love him as a player. Lakers will need a few years to get back to the top again. Unless they pull a sweet move in getting a big man that can play.

Indeed he has something to prove and he'd probably average 26-30 points per game if he stays healthy, but what does he have around him? wade and jones... they pretty much gutted their team to trade for him odem, butler, grant.... They do not have enough players around them to win an championship.

The lakers wil win an championship before Heat does.

sean416 07-15-2004 11:54 PM

It's basically like this in my opinion, if Kobe would have went to the clippers he would be the BIGGEST asshole in the world. He was the one who wanted Phil Jackson gone because Phil didnt worship the ground he walked on. He wanted shaq gone because shaq cut in on his lime light. So if you get the head coach and co-star player fired, what else can a team offer you? He owns the Lakers as far as im concerned. Not only does that show his character, but it shows where his heads at.

If you saw ESPN's exclusive interview with Shaq, you could easily tell he is the more mature player of the two. He's not the high maintenance one. What do players like Kobe and do? They need others to motivate them, then when the whole world is watching and they're put on a platform, they come through and deliver an exceptional performance. Going into the season the lakers will be a mediocre team at best with room to grow. But no one else will be able to carry the team through hard times. They'll fall into a mediocre team position, Kobe will find a scape goat to blame, and the team will go straight downhill untill Kobe either has a convenient injury or gets traded to another team (repeat cycle).

On the other hand you have a solid player who can dominate and carry a team on his back (Shaq). With someone like Pat Riley with ltons of experience he'll be able to build a team around Shaq in the next 2-3 years and Miami will win a championship and Shaq will retire a champion.

Just think about a whiney spoiled brat like Kobe playing in the playoffs against teams like Dallas, Sacremento, San Antonio and Houston while Shaq is up against ZERO competition at his position. Not to mention Shaq also makes those around him a better player, so put your money on the fact that Eddie Jones will be scoring at least 17 points plus a game.

It's a done deal. Shaq will carry the Heat to championship and be regarded as one of the best centers of all time. Kobe will be a washed up "could have been" player a la Vince Carter. Time WILL tell.

<--- waving his Miami Heat pom poms.

hova 07-16-2004 03:02 AM

Good for Shaq, and probably the best thing the Lakers could do

LA Mike 07-19-2004 02:05 PM

You guys are all crazy.. Penny was suppose to be great and he had Shaq and others and they never won it. Kobe never gets his due cuz Shaq is on the team. Watch Kobe the next few years and I will say I told you so. It might take a couple years to get the right team around him but he will win at least two more Chapionships in his Laker career.

And comparing Kobe to Carter is an insult. Kobe is twice the player Carter is.. Offence/Defence and in the most important catagory of all... (Heart) Kobe is a true competitor.

Shaq is a fucking baby and I'm glad to see him leave. Yea, I'm sure he will finally come into camp in shape this year cuz he wants to prove something and he plays in the easiers division in basketball.

Think about it.. Can shaq bring a team back by himself when they are down 15 in the 4th? Can shaq make a big basket at the end or the game? Moreless a free throw.. Fuck no... Shaq doesnt have any help over there and Kobe will finally get his due as to how much of a peice he was to the puzzle of the 3 rings.

JB.... 100 or 1000 bucks that the Lakers make the playoffs was the bet if you are in??

SCtyger 07-19-2004 02:47 PM

people jumped on the Vincanity band wagon... when he was dunkin on people... then people hopped on the T-mac wagon... people kept saying they'd rather have either of the 2 instead of kobe... either of the 2 were better...

but today? there's no doubt who the best perimeter player in the League is. there's no doubt who the better of the 3 is...

vince is a softy with no heart, t-mac is lazy with no heart... only kobe brings to the table all 3... toughness, worth ethic ... n heart.

sure more pressure will be on Kobe now, but it'll be just another chance for him to prove haters.. err doubters wrong again.

no doubt shaq n kobe will both be different players w/o each other... but at least kobe has time left to take it to the next level... Shaq? he cant afford to wait for Wade to develop.. and any true fan knows that eddie's the invisible man in the playoffs.

30mil for a player with declining skills is too much... lakers had to get rid of him and his rediculous demands.
