Donald Trump Blasts Bush

LOS ANGELES - Billionaire Donald Trump, famous for telling contestants "You're Fired" on his hit show "The Apprentice,"' is not happy with the Bush Administration's handling of the Iraq war.

In an interview for the August edition of Esquire Magazine to be published on Friday, the magazine says he makes it clear the administration would never keep a job with him.

"Look at the war in Iraq and the mess that we're in. I would never have handled it that way. Does anybody really believe that Iraq is going to be a wonderful democracy where people are going to run down to the voting box and gently put in their ballot and the winner is happily going to step up to lead the country?," Trump said.

"C'mon. Two minutes after we leave, there's going to be a revolution, and the meanest, toughest, smartest, most vicious guy will take over. And he'll have weapons of mass destruction, which Saddam didn't have," Trump said in excerpts of the interview released in advance to Reuters.

"The Apprentice" was one of NBC's biggest hits last season.

"What was the purpose of the whole thing? Hundreds and hundreds of young people killed. And what about the people coming back with no arms and no legs? Not to mention the other side. All those Iraqi kids who've been blown to pieces. And it turns out that all of the reasons for the war were blatantly wrong. All this for nothing!," Trump said.

Trump also proclaims he would be "tougher" on terrorism.

"Bin Laden would have been caught long ago. Tell me, how is it possible that we can't find a guy who's six-foot-six and supposedly needs a dialysis machine? Can you explain that one to me? We have all our energies focused on one place, where they shouldn't be focused," he said.

Trump's companies are so poorly run they are always in debt and flirting with bankruptcy. He really has no proven ability to sustain profitability on invested capital.

What he has proven, is an ability to get banks to lend him more and more money when they really shouldn't -- because they are afraid he'll just file for bankruptcy and really screw them.

Actually the current president is a businessman and so was his father. The line between politics and business is about as thin as the seperation of church and state. You would think Trump would have seen all the money Bush and his family are making by stacking the decks to make insider contracting possible for most aspects of the war, or maybe he did and he is mad he did not think of it? More realisticly we should not think that Trump's companies did not try to get in on the reconstruction, Trump is a smart man so I am sure he did but this is not the 80's and his connections are not as powerful as the Bush boys'.......not defending bush but I started in mainstream business so I can see business being done. Trump can sit there and BS about thinking this war is all about liberation and finding Osama but I doubt this is what that is about.

Trump was in the right place in the right times, he made good moves when he was younger and now he uses his name for business alone. He was a household name and he is trying to get back that way through reality television. Here is something to think over about mainstream business and how it works.
How much do you think all the machines, all the rent, all the employees, all the ceo's all the supplies and all the utilities for every Kinko's across the world cost? How much is a copy? How many of you have a printer/copy machine in your home and how many offices across the world have them also. Do you REALLY think that the copy business is all that profitable to support all that. Anyone in big corp business knows how to use debt correctly especially Trump.

In the buyout deal, Bush and his partners were given more than $2 million worth of Harken stock for the 180-well operation. Bush became a director and was hired as a "consultant" to Harken. He received another $600,000 of Harken stock, and has been paid between $42,000 and $120,000 a year. Notice also how the welfare of the rich has colorful terms like "consultant," and "director."

By the spring of 1987, Harken was in need of cash. More failure! What a consistent failure of an SOB our president is. So Bush and his fellow Harken officials met with Jackson Stephens, head of Stephens, Inc., an investment bank in Little Rock, Arkansas (Stephens contributed $100,000 to the Reagan-Bush campaign in 1980 and gave another $100,000 to the Bush dinner committee in 1990.) Stephens arranged for Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) to provide $25 million to Bush?s company in return for a stock interest in Harken. As part of the deal, Sheikh Abdullah Bakhsh, a Saudi real estate tycoon and financier, joined Harken's board as a major investor. Stephens, UBS, and Bakhsh each had ties to the infamous, scandal-ridden Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI). In 1990, Bush sold his remaining stock options and left the oil business. Writer Jack Colhoun revealed some details of that stock sale, referring to Bush by his childhood nickname ?Junior?:

On June 22, 1990, George Jr. sold two-thirds of his Harken stock for $848,560-a cool 200 percent profit. The move was well timed. One week after Junior sold his stock, Harken announced a $23.2 million loss in quarterly earnings and Harken stock dropped sharply, losing 60 percent of its value over the next six months. On August 2, 1990, Iraqi troops moved into Kuwait and 541,000 U.S. forces were deployed to the Gulf.

"There is substantial evidence to suggest that Bush knew Harken was in dire straits in the weeks before he sold the $848,560 of Harken stock," asserted U.S. News & World Report. The magazine noted Harken appointed Junior to a 'fairness committee' to study possible economic restructuring of the company. Junior worked closely with financial advisers from Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Company, who concluded "only drastic action could save Harken." Yet, this failure skated because his President father had appointed the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

I would not say Bush is a "bad" businessman as far as his ability to generate capital for himself, but I would say he is not someone you would want to invest in long term. Those companies were fleeced on purpose, "hey at the end of the day I have made my money" was probably the on going mentality on those. Now that he is in power he can get the big boy contracts and start all over again, but this time it is mostly tax payer money so there are less angry investors crying for blood, that is "good" business some would say. Thankfully most of us do not do business like that or I would definitely not be in business. People like that are why there is such hatred for people like us. Thus is the world though.
