This sounds like good atempt at making it in this industry......I have 1 advice for you, if you plan on submitting tgp gallerys, GET PARTNER ACCOUNTS, I cant stress that enough :)

Good Luck dude!:thumbsup

I moved away from home to go to university when I was 18. It was a free ride cause my parents were paying for my school, books and rent, food, etc. I didnt have to get a job, I didnt have to do shit. I just sat around watching porn and making sure my grades were good so my parents were happy. Then summer time was about to roll around and my parents told me they expected me to come home for the summer... could I really go back home after being a free man for close to 8 months? The city I am from is small and boring now I live in Toronto which I think is a huge metorpolitan and amazing city, could I go back to the small town?

Anyway, long storey made short, I had 30days to come up with rent or be on a plane back home. You guessed it, I had about $0 to my name and my $500 credit cards (two of them) were maxed out from going to the bar every other day. I borrowed a friends camera and went out and started snapping pictures left and right of chicks who were walking down the street in tight clothes. Got a friend to get me a domain name through godaddy.com and lucked out because www.1and1.com was offering free hosting at the time for 3 years as some promotional thing (they just started hosting for end users, before it was B2B). I signed up with verotel to avoid the Visa charges. Exchanged links with anybody and everybody who would put my link up.

Once I had the site up and traffic coming in I started signing up for sponsors and submitting galleries. I was the idiot submitting Nasty Dollars FHG's to the hun non-stop every 3-4 days wondering why he wouldnt list me. I finally ended up figuring out what I was doing wrong, made some adjustments and kept on going. After a while (3-4months) I was making about 3-4k a month from the voyeur site and submitted galleries.

Shit, this was suppose to be the short version! lol. Anyway, to wrap things up, I just turned 21, living downtown with a beautiful view of the skyline, in a fairly nice condo, I own a decent car (98 infiniti QX4) and make enough bank to put myself through school and take care of the mortgage, condo fees, tuition, etc.

I know you know its possible to make money in this industry, but now you know its possible to do so in the same situation you're in. Two people offered advice in this thread that I would definitely personally vouch for. 1) Patience and Persistance. When you're first starting out, don't measure your success with how much money is in the bank. If after the first two or even three months you're breaking even, consider yourself ahead of the game. Keep at it. 2) Grow slow and strong and reinvest. Similar to the first one, dont be discouraged if after a couple weeks of promoting you're not getting any hits. Don't be discouraged if you email 1000's of people for link exchanges and only 2 give you the time of day. No matter what, if you keep at what you're doing, sooner or later you will become the person in the position of being able to help others, not vice versa.

Okay, I definitely rambled on waaay too long. Good luck bro. :thumbsup

blazin 07-14-2004 05:09 AM

I myself started in this industry with nothing..... got free hosting... free sponsor content... and started from there.

I do fear that that 2k might get washed away and you are making a bit of a gamble....
Reading and researching is no subsitute for practical experience so go slow with your plans until you are sure what you are doing.

I do wish you luck though and look forward to following your progress in the coming weeks

Best of luck too ya.... :thumbsup

SS396chevelleSS 07-14-2004 05:34 AM

I started out selling nothing but sextoys, I have since made a few galleries but havent made much with them... the sextoys however average me a profit of 90 dollars a day (lately, I just came up with some new promotion ideas and they are paying off). I also regestered SteamyToys.com (NICE NAME!!! I got lucky it was available) and now am redirecting from that domain to my sextoy sponcer. Hopefully this will help me build a customer base so I can get return customers now. Anyhow, Hit me up on ICQ if youd like to know more.

Also, im very interested in seeing where this thread goes, I wish you the best of luck and hope to learn something from this

Basic_man 07-14-2004 05:44 AM

Thanks again to everyone who's being encouraging. You guys rock.

blazin: even if after the first 30 days I make absolutely NO money back, I'll still have $1,150 WORTH of scripts and desgined pages to make money with. So the way I'm looking at it, I can't really lose more than $850.

Halo18.

Do not try to put all your money in 1 site. With $2000 you can try to build a small network of sites. Keep it easy for yourself and dont think a good looking tgp page will make your more money. Try different sponsors use like 4-5 sponsors for the start.

The biggest mistake you can make is 1 goodlooking tgp site and buy $1000 traffic for it.

Make them small they grow themself.

If you see your hits growing daily but no sales (yet) then dont change sponsor, just keep on sending aslong the hits grow daily there is nothing to worry about.

Try to keep your gallery traffic for yourself ( adding free hosted galleries ) saves you a lot of time too.

Goodluck with your project Halo.

I hope these tips will help you a bit.

Ross 07-14-2004 09:08 AM

1. Invest $300 in a decent, low end camera, card, and card reader. You can pick up an Olympus 3030 on ebay for $150.
2. Snap 1500 pics of your girlfriend- cutsy strip tease, toys, bj if she's willing.
3. Use your skills to build an amateur personality site around your g/f. Enlist her to help with the text to make it real and believable.
4. Join an avs like proadult, or an amateur network like Wild Rose Network . They specialize in amateur sites that are just starting out. They will give you hosting, billing, traffic, and whatever support you need to get your site going. They will keep 40% to cover their efforts and expenses.
5. Cash checks, and pay back your loan.

Total outlay: $300 and some elbow grease

It's not that hard to get a foot in the door of the paysite business. Once you're on your feet, get your own billing if you wish, but this is a great low risk way for people to begin.

Big Cheese 07-26-2004 10:22 AM

I've been very surprised by the responses in this thread, maybe GFY is maturing ??

Here is my advice, be creative and think outside the box. If your going to be creating sites, don't follow the herd. Try something different e.g. don't make a TGP

Just don't copy what everyone else is doing, if you try something different or new it has a much better chance of success if its a good idea.

Good luck :thumbsup

Glad you like it, I think there's been a lot of solid advice given here... which kind of came as a shock. I hope I can give even more useful info when things get going and I have some results to share. Thanks a lot. :)

Btw you could make decent cash by doing grunt work for other people, stuff like building free sites and doing submissions, updating paysites, reviewing TGP submissions

There is always people on GFY looking for people to do daily tasks, I know for a fact it would pay better than your $7 an hour job. So if you got a few jobs from webmasters here you could quit your day job, gain experience doing daily tasks for other webmasters while working on your own stuff also.

Plus (I hate myself for saying this) but you can make money on GFY being a sig whore, if your actually contributing to threads and not posting stupid shit like other sig whores do people won't mind too much. There is another revenue stream, ditch your normal job a.s.a.p if you can get a few little jobs lined up dude

fr8 07-26-2004 08:21 PM

Im sure there is a great number of people that is in your current situation. Alot of people will learn from this thread as it grows. Ive already learned a few things from it myself as I am one of the few in this current situation. So good luck and invest wisely.

Yes, so far it's getting me about $300 a month, so in a while I'll have 2k, and learn from this guys mistakes

Hmm... I'll give it some thought, but don't you think I'd be able to make more doing all that grunt work for myself instead? I see your point though, this is kind of a...safer option than quitting my job then going all on my own. I do have a copy of advanced submitter so doing submissions wouldn't be too bad to even do on top of my own work... As far as sig whoring goes... the only way I'll feel alright about having a ref code in my sig is if the program is doind very well for me. So, we'll see how it goes. Thanks a lot for your input though.:thumbsup

What do I think of your site? I think you need a new design. In all honesty, the first thing I thought when I went to it was "how is this guy making any money?" The background images need to go, and from a surfers point of view it needs to be easier to navigate.
I do some design myself, as you know if you read everything I've said in previous pages. However, I'm going to have my hands more than full in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

But I'll tell ya what, once I have some free time, I'll make you a new design for your site. I'll do one up and give it to you for free. You can use it, or throw it the hell out if you'd like. Sound alright to you?

I truely hope you do learn from any mistakes I make, and I hope what I do, and the advice people give me, help you to start making a lot more than $300 a month. Thanks for your thoughts.

No prob :) Diversify, Diversify, Diversify !! The more revenue streams you have the better. Also if you build up some traffic for a few websites also sell some ad spots. Doing grunt work for other people will give you experience (while making you money guarenteed money each month) not only that but your building contacts and networking.

Obviously do your own stuff as well, but by doing 'grunt work' your gonna be making more money than your regular job if you get a few jobs lined up, also that money can potentially be payed via paypal or epassporte so no tax to pay on that revenue potentially :Graucho

Btw if your any decent at webdesign or graphics, this is the place to get work at a very good rate !

Checked my voicemail a little bit ago, got some shitty news. Application was denied, the bank can offically lick my asshole. Offically. :321GFY

They do offer another unsecured loan at about double the APR. I could go and apply for that one...which they'd probably give me because then they could rape me with intrest. However, all the talk here about people starting with $0 got me thinkiing.

So, I'm gonna give it a go starting without an initial investment. I'll post some updates when there's updates to post.

good luck bro. i was there.

just remember... in this industry $2k may as well be $0. if you can't make it with $0... you get the point

look at how many people in this thread alone started with nothing but a $20 shared or virtual and notepad.exe not too long ago and now push good volume

do you have any skills that make you employable to anyone around here? it's pretty easy to make $2k off of odd jobs
