Went to Party Poker, played very tight on a couple of $0.5/$1 tables for two hours and I'm up about $40. These are my stats:

Hands Won: 7%
Showdowns Won: 94%
Flops Seen: 30%

if I could make $175 a day, I would stop everthing else and just do poker.

depends how good you are. there are people who have played at the same table for 25 years and your fresh face comes in and his eyes light up.

I fully understand how risky and addictive gambling is. Just wondering if there are people who find gambling not only a way to entertain, but it is what they live of too.
And question in general. What is more important when playing poker: to do some tricky calculations or to get into your opponents mind, to realise what is he/she thinking and to use that against?

Yeah, you're probably right. I've been fine tuning my game up till this point and those are the only hands I question because of the str8 and str8 flush possibilities.

I'm a poker newbie so I probably got lucky, however I do have quite a bit of experience with other gambling (specifically UK horse racing). If that's anything to go by then yes, long term (and I'm talking a LOT more than 100 hours) you could probably make $20 per hour if you were good enough. However, short term you might have to cope with having losing streaks lasting several weeks - last year I lost three months profit in the space of a couple of weeks, but overall for the year I was in profit.

Not the sort of thing you can rely on if you want a steady income...

yep, and if you have a 4-5 day losing steak it take all your money to be able to play like that. so your fucked.
