Exit Consoles ??? To be or not to be ???

I read a post on here yesterday asking for someone to suggest a good Exit traffic sponsor.
I had one and gave the url.
It was then brought to my notice that the exit console I was using had like 15 or 20 pop-ups.
I checked and sure enough it did.
So I deleted the consoles on my site.
Within 24 hours my click-thru ratio went up on my site.
So, do we really need exit consoles and 404's ??? My answer is no.
It was really hurting my visitors and now I see why I had less bookmarks and returns.
Do you agree with me ???

It depends on the type of traffic you're feeding that page with

If it's TGP traffic smack em with some exit pops
