Perhaps this new system will affect search engine rankings in the future.

The article appeared at ananova news:

"The Internet Content Rating Association has unveiled a new system aimed at making the web safer to navigate for children.

The ICRA labeling system is a voluntary scheme that engages the websites themselves in the grading process.

The non-profit organisation says the system offers parents more peace of mind while respecting the free speech of websites.

The ICRA engine creates an appropriately formatted label that contains details of each website concerned.

Web pages can then be interpreted by common web filtering applications that provide a level of security based on parents' specifications.

ICRA chair Sheridan Scott said: "Only by providing systems like this that help reassure parents that the internet can be a safe learning and communication tool can it reach its full potential for everyone."

ICRA enjoys the support of several leading companies including AOL, British Telecom, IBM, Microsoft, and Bertelsmann."

So, would you take part in this voluntary web-labelling system?

I would take part in it, but it sounds just like rsac to me.

The problem with these ratings systems is no consistancy. If everyone would stick to a system it might actually accomplish something.

NO! I have argued this point before - the internet isn't safe and nor is London/ New York - children are allowed to use the internet by their parents, why the fuck should I babysit their kids just because they are too lazy?

If parents don't want their kids seeing 'bad things' on the net, IE has a built in feature to stop 'sex' sites being viewed - why doesn't anyone fuckin USE it???

IE's built in feature to stop kids from viewing sex sites dosen't work to well my 11 year old hacked it within a hour ! He went in and deleated the string eliminating the password ! The best way to stop kids from viewing porn is for parents to monitor there use !

if all webmasters did this not only would kids not be able to access porn (does'nt really concern me at all)

but we wouldn't have as many non credit card holding, bandwidth burning, freeloaders running around costing us MONEY.
