A few years ago every major program started rolling out all these "niche sites" which were basically niche tours that went to the same members area as all their other sites.
Obviously the retention on them sucked, but you could make money on them with the right combination of pre-checked cross sells and upsells in the members areas, plus now you had an email address to spam the hell out of.
With Visa's new 1% rules and the "sexually explicit brown wrapper" can-spam rules that business model is dead, and people are closing sites that don't have the content inside to retain members.sig too bigComment

I think they need to be a combination of both. Exclusive costs big bucks and your average surfer wants a ton of content. So the exclusive makes your site unique but it is the non-exclusive that fills the site up enough where they believe they are getting their monies worth.Originally posted by Just J

Niche dying? Are you serious? Not only that you can combine niche and reality, but this is the best time to have your own paysites, exclusive content is dirt cheap, non exclusive is a little expensive when compared to exclusive, but still good price, design is 1/4 of what it was 2-3 years ago... even paying VISA fees there was no time like this, specially for niche sites, people is killing to discover new niches to make paysites!

If you want to do a tranny site, midget site, goth, housewives, whatever - you better have some great content that is exactly what that niche surfer has in his head he wants or he's gone - the only conversions and retention you'll have is the 10% who joined the site and forgot to cancel.I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting.
