Also are you really wanting to deal with people you have to resort to fake threads, or bad publicity in order to bring them in?

yup I have dropped programs cause of this.. Sometimes bad publicity helps get you seen and sometimes it is good but for the most part it's not a good thing

beergood 07-09-2004 04:52 PM

depends on your business

chipmunk 07-09-2004 04:57 PM

Hey PB,

Having been in Marketing/Advertising and PR for a while I would say NO, without hesitation when it comes to a company, however people are somewhat different.

Bad publicity, when it comes to a company, even 1 time can have severe consequences and break a company, unless it can be spun in the right direction, which is sometimes is very hard to do.

Bad Publicity however for an individual in some odd way, "Can" sometimes boost their rep. Hence a rock star gets into a bar fight and gets thrown into jail... He is personified then as a "bad Boy" and it can boost their image on some level, or a Super Star Gets caught flashing... etc...

Another example is a movie... Faces of Death for example.. It got ? Bad? publicity due to being banned in like 46 countries and the nature of the film... Well when it came out on video/DVD it was a huge draw due to the controversial nature and "wrenched" publicity"

So it all depends on the situation...

Just my opinion...

Talk to you soon hun...and see you in FL

Not always right away, it takes time for the shock to wear off the public, but over time the person starts to reap the fame generated from being a jackass.

Doctor Dre 07-09-2004 04:59 PM

Just look at mediatickets ...

Firehorse 07-10-2004 07:36 AM

Like most things it depends on how you use it. Generally negative publicity can be very harmful. :2 cents:

Its kinda sad to see so many good things happen and they go over looked. No one seems to give a rats ass if it doesnt* include gossip or if its putting another company to shame. Its like how do we expect things to change when change includes the whole nation! Sadly it never will......

See you in Florida !

BrettJ 07-14-2004 01:51 PM

Nope!!

we've been on tv, radio, newspapers the last couple days. it's done some joins. nothing special.

but it's definately not enough to compensate us for the fact that we have now been branded public enemy #1 for local legislatures and maybe even the current administration

If so, then you've answered your question.:glugglug

No such thing....

At the end of the day, the name the action remains on the mind long after the rest just go by un noticed...

So the answer to your question Miss Punker Barbie is

YES YES YES

dennisthemenace 07-14-2004 05:10 PM

They say it is, but it's not.

Publicity that is spread by gang mentality always sucks.

pure energy 07-14-2004 06:30 PM

no...but either good or bad works well...it is still publicity anyway

sickkittens 07-14-2004 06:34 PM

I'd go with no. Look how many people want to kill Kobe. ;)

reynold 07-14-2004 07:29 PM

Depends.

Now, if someone had like a REAL SEXY VIDEO of you........ I don't see the harm in putting it on line. I think even if you thought it was bad it would be well recieved.

Porn4abuck 07-14-2004 09:12 PM

Yep... all about program impressions.

GFY is not where business is done.

99% bullshit.... 1% Biz

jayeff 07-14-2004 10:59 PM

A few years ago a guy called Clive Ratner who owned a major jewellery chain in the UK, said in an interview that his stores sold crap. I don't remember whether his business actually went bankrupt, but it came to close as a result of the resulting publicity.

A lot depends on how people who are the subject of bad publicity handle it. I always felt that if Clinton had admitted a slip with Monica Lewinsky, he would have done himself far less damage than by lying about it.

But it can go either way, for example the talking banners thing here. I didn't like the bloody things, basically because I hate being in any webmaster area and subjected to gimmicks. But until a couple of days ago I couldn't have told you which program had used them.

Now I doubt I shall ever forget and IMO the people who used them came out of the ensuing debate (if you can call it that) a lot better than their critics.

pxxx 07-14-2004 11:16 PM

Couldn't say yes to this question.

johnbosh 07-14-2004 11:17 PM

I think you hit the nail on the head. But as for whether or not negative publicity has an overall positive effect--I think it depends on the individual situation. I don't think the banner thing was an overall negative. It's something people will forget.

There are other things that have happened on this board that people will never forget, though.

Rankings 07-15-2004 03:55 AM

depends on who you ask. I myself am not sure

Stan4Stan 07-15-2004 04:45 AM

Unhappily yes. :( :( :( :( :(
