and.....shut up....please....there is nothing worse than some loud mouth trash talking trailer park "hey pa look how big my titties are" chick trying to make suggestions on how we should run an infrastructure.... you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about on any level and the if you want to show a smart side....you can begin exercising it by shutting the fuck up....anything you say will only reinforce how much of an idiot you are.... to be sure you hear me....you dont know anything about our client....our situation....our data center....our providers.....how much pipe we have....how much they have paid for etc...etc.... do not make judgements on what you dont know.....if you want to know how I feel think when I read your utter bullshit.... Think of how you felt when I started to insult you......are we clear. I said those things without knowing shit about you.....but the surface makes it appear as though........ the only thing you accomplished with me is that I do not like you because you started running youyr mouth about something that you knew nothing about..... and if you want to continue....... be my guest....I've never taken candy from a baby but I hear it's quite easy.... |

Jim - You guys are off to a good start. |
When the board first went down there was a message saying they only had one server for the board... sorry but that's just poor planning.

There is no advertising there. There's no income at this point to offset the expenses so spending like you're a billionaire to make sure every tard and their brother can say "howard rocks" is pissing money into the wind. You don't know the actual demand. Until you do - being conservative is smart business. |
Bandwidth isn't the issue.
It's a hardware / network design issue. I'm sure they know what they are doing by stepping back to gauge what the max # of simultaneous users they need to support is before spending the money and building the network only to find out they needed 10x the network. Forums can be tricky because there is the DB element to them. It's not as simple as getting a beefy box, connecting a gigabit link to it & you're off. LARGE forums often run on multiple _well equiped_ DB backeneds with as many load balanced client front ends you need to serve your load.... until you saturate your resources to your backend. Err... to explain it easier: X number of users requires Y number of front ends. Y number of front ends requires Z number backends. Holio is just trying to get the value of X before spending any serious money building a network. :thumbsup A word to the wise tho Jim.... plan for at least 10x peak requirements with Howard. You never know when he's going to piss off half the world and have them land on the forums doorstep... wouldn't want to give them the satisfaction of thinking they brought the forum to it's virtual knees. :winkwink: |

You plan with budgets.....we planned with the budget we were given.... one server.....you its one thing to be wrong....and without the correct information....it is another to be wrong with conviction.... What makes you think for one minute i am going to disclose the inner dealings we have with Howard....do you have any idea how many people are in this loop.....how many people need to be satisfied on a daily basis..... no you do not.....and you have wrong information with it only being one server.....i cannot stress to you enough.....you do not know what is going on so stop pretending as if you do |

uhhhh...not a member yet???

I would just like to say congrats to Jim and the Dreamtank crew for landing such a huge deal. :thumbsup
I believe they are competent proffessionals that can handle such a big undertaking as the Howard board. As Jim said, however many times, it is being tested. That is all that really needs to be said, I mean how the hell could they set it up so it runs right without knowing what parameters it needs to operate on. Best of luck to you Jim. |
I read the technotes on the board. They say it's b/c of server loads. I say they need to get a better server and look into load balancing options!
|
all these replies and no link? :helpme :glugglug
|
Very cool, im waiting for you guys to open it fully. Better to do test first and make a few calculations than just opening on chance......
Keep up the good work :thumbsup |

You think they have a problem with bandwidth? They can afford more then you could ever think of. |
