From my point of view Amber is hot, smart and should be Miss GFY. Now she may have a big head too. Think another thread paid her many compliments that stroked her ego. Anyway thanks for your *all*.

heh, you're such a sweetheart. thank you. :)

never fear my dear, i know well the fine line between warranted self confidence and raging ego maniac. i love who i am and have confidence in my abilities, but never to the point of being blind to my faults. :winkwink:

hahaha

After everyone ELSE started squatting and pissing in cups (Brittany Andrews, chAos..etc) I gave that up and cleaned up my image. You should have seen me in San Diego!

:winkwink:

Thanks for the unofficial "vote" Tony404 !

I am really rooting for Mandy...she DOES know her stuff and *IS* the "Cindy Crawford of the BBW world"!

Have you considered dropping out because the contest is not what you thought it would be?

This is not a bash just my opinion. I am in no way shape or form jealous of anyone.

I never entered the contest cause I knew it would be a beauty contest which one would have to have an make-up artist and good photographer to win. (Emphasis on the GOOD professional photographer)

The majority of the regular women that post here WAY before the contest are webmistress, women in marketing and webmistress that also model. I have been around a few years so I know how few ladies actually posted here.

Although I am a bit disappointed, I know it is all about the bling bling , hits etc so I am just enjoying it from an observer. I just hope some of this new women stay after the contest.

Good Luck to all contestants.

Based on some of the "generalization" comments I have read here, I feel like I should outline a few facts about Vanilla and I for any inquiring minds:
  • Vanilla does her own hair and make-up - she does not use make-up artists.
  • Vanilla has not spent more than a few bucks on each entry - most everything used has been something we already owned.
  • Vanilla is a web model for her own site, but 90% of her time is spent in the office (working her site and others we own, graphics, video-editing, marketing, work for Twisted, etc.).
  • I'm not a "pro" photographer by any means - I have had no training or schooling in photog, though I have been taking Vanilla's pictures since we started her amateur site in 99.
  • All of her entries have been shot using the same crappy Olympus E-10 I have used for years - no pro light kits, reflectors or anything else.
  • Vanilla (and myself) were both registered and posting for a couple months before MissGFY was every mentioned.
  • We both spent numerous years in "corporate America" before getting into this industry in 99 - Vanilla worked in HR management for several large corporations.

Just because someone is beautiful, does not mean that person is dumb, or only good for one thing. :2 cents:

Stewie - Vanilla hasn't been around GFY that long, but she's in been in the industry longer than a lot of folks here. I have nothing but respect for the two of you. And your amazing photography skills! :thumbsup

re: the contest
I'm going to be voted out this week & for the amount of time & effort doing these shoots have taken me, I'd be plenty happy to take the place of someone who wants to drop out.

I was expecting there to be more interesting tasks too, but I still think the contest is a great success. I'm getting to know a lot of new people & girls who were too shy to post on GFY are now regulars. I think that's what it's all about.

:2 cents:

Hey Stewie, most of us know what Vanilla does and how long she has been in this industry. I must have missed any posts that were directly about her.

Not my intention to nitpick about anything or anyone.

Honestly, due to lack of time and other things, I have considered bailing, so I just wanted to post and see if I was alone in those thoughts:-)

If there are any "content girls" left in the running, I'm unaware. As I scroll through who is left, all I see is either models who run their own sites or similar.

Give Vanilla a big Kiss for me:Graucho Looks like she is gonna win this one for the 2nd week in a row :winkwink:

EDIT: Oh, and BTW ...if you get ready to upgrade , I've got a Very new Nikon E5700 hehe I'm getting ready to upgrade to the D70 :)

Thanks Ivy - my comments weren't directed specifically at you or anything you said here. It was more based on indirect comments I have read by others here and in other threads - just trying to dispel some of the generalizations people are making.

No one has won yet - besides, the judges have the final say. As Lensman said in this weeks contest thread: "Also remember, the Judges determine the final results. Last time, it matched the votes." :glugglug

I would have entered had I been given confirmation that it wasn't a picture contest. At this point - in a way it's a little offensive to see that all you are being asked to do is take pictures with the exception of the posting contest. If it continues this way, most of you will have paid a good part of the possible winnings - without winning anything in the end. I think you're all flattered to hear 'you're hot' - but at the end of the day, when you look in a mirror each and everyone of you know you are the most beautiful woman to one who matters & quite frankly, I'm sure you'd all love to be judged on alot more than just your looks.

Whatever Lensman's plan was from the start, it sure is looking like a long, drawn out, viewfest & quite soon many *even the horniest webmasters* will grow tired of it.

I'm sure all the ladies that entered hoped to win - but most importantly hope to gain allies & partners & promoters in the competition - just in case you don't win. In the end, your brains aren't being used - your creativity, imagination & photographers' skills are just being played out.

I'd personally like to see more of these women showing their other talents - promotion skills, marketing ideas, writing skills & more. It doesn't take a beauty contest to confirm that they are all gorgeous - we knew that before & we'll know it after too. If people weren't promoting you then, they most likely won't promote you after - nothing changed, just more pictures of the same 'idea' being taken.

BRING ON THE BRAINS, TALENT & OTHER ATTRIBUTES OF THESE FINE WOMEN.

Tempest 07-08-2004 12:49 PM

For all it's worth, here's my :2 cents:

It's a "shame" that the competition appears to be more of a "beauty" contest, but as the powers that be have said, it encompasses women from all areas. Having looked at the suggestions for other competitions, I can understand the problem with coming up with things that aren't just weekly photo competitions.

However.... I understand the feelings of "should I drop out"... It's a long competition... but honestly, I think that anyone that sticks it out to the end, putting up with all the GFY crap etc. DESERVES to win, even if it means 10 weeks of just photo. The contest isn't meant to make a "statement" about women in this biz. Nor is the contest going to change all the misogynist neanderthals on here. So go with it. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PRIZES...

Has anyone really had a look at who's left?? I'm impressed that a lot of the women left are ones that I see posting here on a regular basis. And that's what GFY is about and what a Miss GFY should be in my opinion.

PS. Surpringly, seeing some of the posts, photo creativity etc. in this contest HAS made me respect some of the women in the competition more than I did before. Take that for what its worth.

HS-Trixxxia 07-08-2004 12:56 PM

50 wishes for a more rounded contest :)

I'll probably get kicked out this week since no one is voting on my picture, but otherwise I'll stick with it as far as it will take me. I don't like quitting:) I think the contest is part beauty (some people get votes just for looking hot), part popularity (some people get votes just for being popular), but primarily it seems that - at least in this round - peope are voting on creativity. I am curious to see if there will be other non-picture oriented tasks coming in the future, since I like to think I'm well-rounded in terms of webmaster and website skills:)

I was never in the contest, but if I were, I'm sure I would have dropped out by now. Not because of all the picture-taking rounds specifically, but because of the lack of variety. It could be anything... 3 rounds of banner design, 3 essay rounds, 3 random Q & A rounds, 3 rounds of the same whatever... it's becoming too monotonous to keep my attention for much longer, and I'm just part of the audience.
