WombRaider 07-08-2004 10:32 AM

Wow! That was a long time ago. My first home computer was the Commodore Vic 20. Was twice as nice as the TRS-80's we were using in school. :)

My first computer was a Timex Sinclair 1000, I got the C-64 a couple of years later

Blue Eyes 07-08-2004 11:38 AM

I had one, I remembered one sentence while loading games:

CRACKED BY DR CRACKER

Anybody who remembers this?

Jill_J 07-08-2004 11:43 AM

SleazyDream 07-08-2004 11:43 AM

i had one - great machine

UnclePecker 07-08-2004 11:49 AM

My first puter was the Vic 20, I had a 300 baud modem and the cassette data drive with it. I used to call up Pirates Cove BBS. Ran up some huge ass phone bills until I started Phreaking:)
2nd was C64 with a real hard drive and 16K expansion memory card.
3rd was C128
4th was a IBM 8086....Then 286/386/486/so on...

VirtuMike 07-08-2004 11:49 AM

My first computer:

Commodore Pet 2001. Serial number 30. 2k ram.

I had 5 c64's at one point.

FYI you can play Defender of the Crown online now:

http://www.cinemaware.com/robinhood_main.asp

Hit "Play the original".

quiet 07-08-2004 11:52 AM

trs80.... baby.

UnclePecker 07-08-2004 11:57 AM

Remember loading programs from the datasette?
Hit load, press play on the cassette, and go eat dinner...
Come back 30 mins later to sometimes see: LOAD ERROR
ahahah...

Big Cheese 07-08-2004 12:06 PM

Ahhh, "Defender of the Crown". That's the game that I used to play. It was an awesome game back in the day.

My first was a Timex Sinclair too. I paid the extra to not have to solder one together:glugglug
I remember sitting down with a magazine that had about 3 pages of code and eventually typing in a very crude space invaders game. Although the Sinclair was a neat toy for a bit, it never had any real practical uses for me.

Later I got a Radio Shack CoCo. Had some neat cartridges for it (and some text games & simple programs on cassette tape) but at the time the games we all wanted to play were mostly being grabbed up by Atari, so I spent more time with the 2600 than the CoCo. I remember hooking the CoCo to the output of my stereo where it displayed a spectograph and feeling sooo hitech:1orglaugh

Manowar 07-08-2004 12:14 PM

the demo music that can be made with those things is insane

NoCarrier 07-08-2004 12:17 PM

My first computer was a COCO 2 :1orglaugh

My first powerful machine was an Amiga 500..

http://www.corestack.com/machines/graphics/amiga500.jpg

That and a nice GVC 1200 bauds external

I miss the BBS time :(

Strife 07-08-2004 12:22 PM

My cousin had one. I remember always going to their house to just to play games on their Commodore64

WebMartin 07-08-2004 12:55 PM

we were absolutely psyched when Dad brought home the C64 - the ghetto kids actually had something that was technologically advanced - it was fabulous!!! Then we upgraded to the Atari and also had the Apple IIC with the green and black screen - but I still kicked eveyone's ass in the Kung Fu game! And still will to this day!:glugglug

That was Hovver Bovver from Llamasoft :thumbsup

I picked up a mint condition boxed set Commodore a couple of months back and am still looking to find Archon (my fave ever game).

I love the machine, and didint even mind the load times. The Hobbit used to take 18 minutes to load (245 on the tape counter), but I still played it loads.

Marie 07-09-2004 04:30 AM

Oh I had one and i loved it. The games were amazing!! I played Gianna Sisters till I dropped, Wonderboy was so cool too. Frogger, Hunchback, Pitfall, Snoopy, Donkey Kong.... Winter, Summer, World and California Games... amazing!! Me and my friends kept a little notebook with the Highscores. If i see that notebook now I can't stop laughing.

...and now my parents have thrown it away, together with the 100's of floppy's with 1000's of games i had. Shit.

xxxbruce 07-09-2004 04:37 AM

yeah i had one

extreme 07-09-2004 04:52 AM

last ninja, H.E.R.O, commando, spy vs spy, pirates, bruce lee, wastelands, summer games, winter games, ghost & goblins...

will never be so fucking exciting playing games again.

For a bunch of new mp3remixes on classic c64/amiga game tunes check out http://remix.kwed.org/.

Some goldnuggets in there, a couple of Evil last ninja remixes amongst others.

Archon the odd "chess" like game? hahah, damn, that was cool. Loved beating up that obelisk (or whatever that fast fucker was called) with a slow grunt with a big stick. Have the original here somewhere.
