Children need to learn how to behave appropriately in every situation. You can't let your kid run wild like a maniac at home then expect them to know how to behave in public. When there are expectations, boundaries, and consistent consequences, you won't have a problem.

I have 3 children and we take them to very nice restaurants. I see people cringe when we walk in because they think we're going to ruin their dining experience. These are the people who come over to our table to commend our children and thank us for having such nice, well-behaved kids. (they're 3, 6, and 9, btw)

That tantrum shit doesn't fly with us.

Befriend the kids, then instead of crying, they will come to your house with smiles :)

Then again, you may get some strange looks for that.

(I am amazed at how this thread has gone from hating crying kids to teens looking like thugs and where to buy firearms...or whatever the heck you guys are talking about!)

The last thing I need is a couple 2 year olds running across the street to visit me . . . . thanks, but no thanks. I am done with kids until my kids decide to make me a grandfather, and that will be at least 5 years from now . . . at the very earliest.

I shudder to remember what I looked like in the late 60s, all flower power, bells beads and kaftans. My Dad use to think I was going to a wedding or funeral if I wore shoes. :1orglaugh

Kassidy, I have an 11 year old and an almost 4 yr old. They are brought up well - they just have different temperaments. My son is the kid everyone wants around since he's well-mannered & very sociable + he keeps everyones kids entertained. My daughter is an introvert most of the time & when she's got an audience she's dancing and singing and putting on a show - very quiet if there aren't kids around, easily satisfied, singing most of the time just don't disturb her when she doesn't want to be disturbed cuz she'll pull a tantrum **I did mention she's much better now**. My son went through this phase too, it didn't last long. She's a little different, I love her just the same - she can be sweet as pie and has smarts that most kids her age can't process, much less comprehend. She started talking very late and therapists think this may be why her instinct is to go the yelling/screaming way - patience is a virtue - and as a mother, that's what I have to practice & accomplish.

BTW, in case you didn't read my earlier posts, people don't cringe, simply because I don't bring her to places that a child's boisterous behaviour is not tolerated.

One evening I went to drive to the store for some chow, and there were muddy sneaker prints ON MY CAR!:mad:

Yesterday, my doorbell rings I stagger to the door sleepy and it's two little kids asking if I had any kids for them to play with and I said NO! Then one of the little shits told me I needed to get married and have kids. It was cute in an innocent kind of way, but I felt like smacking his parents.

justify as you may....but believe it or not......not everyone spent every Friday night at Chili's or the likes with screaming children.......there was a time when people actually stayed at home with a young family not dragging them out to every place they see on a commercial.......

Same experience with our kids. Our 18 month attempts a fit now and then but my wife just takes her out of the restaurant. People are always telling us how well behaved our kids are : )

the kids who dont stop when their parents tell them to shut up are the worst

They have banned smoking in most public restaurants here in town. I wish they would ban kids as well.

When I go out with the wife I would prefer a peaceful evening free of screaming crying kids. Thats what baby sitters are for.
