HELP!!! Internet Explorer 6.0 Question???

This is really driving me crazy! I don't know if I inadvertantly changed some settings or what?

If I'm surfing a page and click-thru to another page and then use the browser's "back button" I'm taken back to the top of the origingal page instead of being returned to the section of the page I clicked-thu from.

EXAMPLE: If I click on a thread near the bottom of the page on GFY and then use my browser's "back button" I'm returned to the top of the page instead of being returned near the bottom of the page to the thread that I clicked-thru from.

I hope this makes sense. Anyone have an ideas how to fix this?

Sounds to me your in a frame page and you're going back on the page level versus the frame level. Try right clicking on the page and clicking the back option from the drop down.

It does it even on pages without frames like the main thread page of GFY.

I get that sometimes too. Try clearing out temporary internet files, then close IE, open it again and it should be fixed.

oh.. what happens if you click the back button once again? does it still stay on the same page, or actually goes back?

the real solution is since Nikki Nevada is having the same problem you girls should have a naked sleepover party and help each other find the answer to the problem in the nude, then post the video and pics here.

it does sound like you have a spyware/scumware problem.

download Spybot and Ad-Aware - that will find 99% of the shit.
Run a virus scan as well. Then put away IE and switch to Mozilla/Firefox/Netscape - take your pick. Only use IE for looking at your own sites to check they work in that browser. IE is a magnet for spyware.

and of course the scumbags of this industry are leading the way and screwing surfers and webmasters alike but you won't see anybody with any power to do anything in this business say shit about it because .......... watch this business a year from now.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me out with this however none of these recommendations resolved the issue. I just got off the phone with MicroSoft's "Pay Per Incident" support with a resolution.

Since some others were experiencing the same thing I thought I'd post the resolution here. After an hour of checking system start-up and configuration files with no resolution the MicroSoft Rep recommended making the following change to my Internet Explorer settings:

Launch Internet Explorer >>> Tools >>> Internet Options >>> Advanced >>> Uncheck "Enable Third-Party Browser Extensions (requires restart)" >>> Apply >>> Restart

This fixed the problem! Is also resolved another issue I was having. I kept getting an Error Message in Internet Explorer when using the browser's back button. The message basically required me to close down the browser and start over. Anyway, it's fixed now!

So, if you're having either of these problems that's the answer!

Enable Third-Party Browser Extensions (requires restart) is turned on default.

So you turned it off at some point and couldn't relate your back-button-page-scroll-position
problem to you turning things off and on in the Advanced section of Internet Options.

Don't play in the "options" of anything unless your know wtf it actually does.

Now comes the part where you say "I didn't turn that off".

No! Here comes the part where I say, "Fuck Off, Idiot!" oh and maybe you should actually read the thread before you start talking out of your ass!

You are correct that it is "turned on" by default. And if you had actually read the thread you would have seen that it was still "turned on" when I was experiencing the problems. The RESOLUTION was to "turn it off".
