Been using Opera 7.51 now for a few days. I'm very "hard" on browsers and during the day I end up opening several hundred pages.

I still can't get used to the tabbed browser.. Makes me feel.. "constrained" or something. But I've noticed some weird problems like graphics not loading properly, or going to a site and the CSS file not loading and I have to refresh the page. I changed the cache setting and that may have fixed that last problem but still not sure.

It has some nice efficiency things but one of the things I'm really not liking is something really small. With IE and netscape when you clicked on a link a small box appears around it. If you come back to the page it's still there. That doesn't happen with Opera. So when you're going thru a long list of links you can't figure out where you were if you've already visited a site. Such a small thing and it's iritating the hell out of me.

The "differences" in java script are also iritating. I still have to check things in IE because the "usuall" way of doing mouseovers for example doesn't show up properly in Opera.

But when im listening to music and click a button or try to go to a new page it stops winamp for a second...opera never did that:(

That's what they said about Netscape too in th early days.

I'll believe it when i see it.

Till now my stats tell me otherwise :)

The Truth Hurts 07-02-2004 02:58 PM

is there a way to get the tabs on the bottom of the screen?

also, gfy form is much narrower in firefox.

The Truth Hurts 07-02-2004 03:01 PM

firefox should take a look at AvantBrowser and see how tabs SHOULD be implemented.

So true, and since Firefox isn't backed by an actual company so much as it is open source developers that means fixes to these exploits will take much longer.

MS has an obligation to get the fixes out very quickly.

I hate that Roboform cant fill htaccess forms in Firefox.
But I mailed the "Roboform people" and they said they
where working on it. Thats good, I will switch to Firefox
when that is done.

michaelw, Avantbrowser beats the hell out of MyIE2. :)

There is alot of things I will miss in Firefox that
Avantbrowser have, but as more and more plugins come
most of the features can be replaced. :)

I've been using Firefox for about a few months now. It's fucking awesome. I love the built in popup blocking and tabbed browsing and it's MUCH more secure than IE. It looks awesome with the NOIA Extreme skin for it. Firefox 0.9 OWNS!! Looking forward to 1.0

ROFL netscape in the early days ??? Where are you from ... You really arent no old schooler ...

1st : Netscape OWNED the market BADLY before internet explorer got built in windows . They sued m$ for uncompetitive marketing or something like that but it was already too late .

Netscape was the first real browser ...

And Firefox is way better then IE as for now .

samuel 07-02-2004 03:21 PM

I made the switch a pair of months ago and the true is it has been a good choice!..

Mozilla will probably never have the market that IE does simply because IE is "part" of Windows. The average doofus will not download and Mozilla - Firefox - Netscape.

So . . . no worries about virus writers. :thumbsup

Nevertheless, I do recommend Mozilla - Firefox to everyone. Patches do take time and while you're waiting for Microsoft your computer is sitting wide open to malicious hackers.

BenzWitRims 07-02-2004 03:26 PM

If you are running Firefox 0.9, I highly recommend this theme. Install it and check it out! I've looked at em all and they suck compared to this one:

Just switched to Firefox, pretty sweet

It's always hard when you're used to using something for years and then have to switch, but so far so good. :)

How do you make ALT tags show up in little boxes so you can easily see them?

crockett 07-02-2004 03:35 PM

well I'm sure other browsers will become much more popular after this annoucment...

Homeland security is telling people not to use IE, because there are too many exploits. They are recommending you you other browsers than IE.

Yeah, I know the feeling.
Took me a couple of weeks to start surfing with Avantbrowser instead of IE.
I did know it was alot better but I had to force myself to use it anyway. Its a wierd feeling.

Yes I think you can, but not in a easy way.

Big Cheese 07-02-2004 04:21 PM

Firefox is great. Go with 0.8 if you can though. I've had more problems viewing pages with 0.9.

the real magoo 07-02-2004 04:38 PM
