Those girls come out of school looking like they went to the night club but they don't have even one book in their hand while walking home. All they have are their cell phones.

I hope us niggas actually gets our equivalent of the forty acres and a mule that blacks were promised at the end of slavery...forty acres worth of land with appreciated value would mean several thousands of dollars to each and every black person in America...Then after that, we can STOP BITCHING!...I wouldn't have to hear Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton or anybody else on television whining about how blacks are treated so badly by society....But if we did get that money, would shit improve for us? Hell No!....

If a nigga got a hold of that money, would there be a lot of new business created to employ our own people? Nope.....Every new Cadillac in America would be bought right off the lot...Every sneaker would be purchased from Foot Locker....Every gold and platinum scrap and diamond left in the world would go into niggas mouths and ears and wrists, and around their necks....Every Marijuana plant from Canada to Guatamala would be picked...The Colombians would be scratching their heads in amazement because they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand of Crack...They'd be like "¡Tamale caliente santo Jose! ¡Los negros desean más y más cocaína".

And then what would happen after we smoked and drank all of that money up, we'd be right back to bitchin about how the white man won't hire us.....Sad.....

I would have loved to hear Bill Cosby say it this way.

brutal, but all true.

and one thing people should realize, just because you understand this to be true doesn't mean you despise any race or ethnic group. fuckups come in all colors and races.

it's just that in american society you can't tell the truth sometimes.

and like other's have said here, my respect for bill cosby just went up about 1000%.

i can't remember now. who shot bill cosby's son in LA some years ago? i wonder about the race of the perpetrator and if that is factoring into cosby's new attitude.

A Black Panther once hit the nail on the head when Eldredge Cleaver said 'If you're not part of the solution...You're part of the problem'

My problem with what Bill C said and all that people are saying here it that we perpetuate the problem...We don't come up with solutions and for most of us we don't want solutions or we would be fixing the shit.

So this discussion is all bullshit and what Cosby said is all bullshit...NOBODY has the balls to fix anything:(

Just keep the shit flying:thumbsup

i think the whole point Bill Cosby and many are making is:

solution = personal responsibility

not sure, but i think Eldredge Cleaver is no longer alive, as i recall he was killed by a black guy in a street holdup in East Oakland, Ca.

someone may correct me on this.

I agree. Bill is trying to alleviate a problem he sees as directly and honestly as he can. No political correctness, no gimmicks, no rhetoric. I don't know how his statements can interpreted as anything other than ultra pro-black.

Pleasurepays 07-02-2004 06:09 PM

people talk as if there was a "politically correct" way to make a solid point about race and culture without being targeted as being racist... or a way to do it without offending.

of course he has to be target as racist. where do you think Jesse Jackson... Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan and countless other black leaders get their power from? from the idea that things have never been worse.. the idea that racism has never been worse... the idea that black people have never been more oppressed. etc etc etc. you don't believe that? Louis Farrakhan made the exact comment at the million man march... "racism has never been worse in America" - I about fell out of my fucking chair when he said that on live TV.

when a popular (and accomplished) black person says "shut up dumbass, ebonics is not a language - grow up and get your shit together", it is a direct threat to the powerbase of black leaders who depend on racism to make a living and to exist.

boo fucking hoo! give me a break. if an idiot wearing a rodeo belt buckle, a cowboy hat and rattlesnake boots had a question and they immediately assumed he wanted country music... would that be unreasonable?

you're pathetic.

well, some of the things Bill is saying about blacks might be rude or offensive but I dont think you can question his intentions. I highly doubt that Bill Cosby is truly saying these things out of racism. its more then likely meant to be an eye opener for the younger generations.

I can guarantee you one thing, more good then bad is coming out of these conversations about what he said.

This is a problem in every high school across the nation, regardless of race. High school is nothing more than a giant fashion show and popularity contest. The public school system (espcially high school) is the furthest thing from education I think I've ever seen.

On another note, I commend Bill for bringing these matters to light, because I think it has a lot more impact on people coming from a fellow black man than it would coming from a white or asian person.

It goes both ways. Not all blacks speak this way, and most ppl don't see it that way. I get racist comments every single day. And it's not the "in your face" racism. I don't get called a N*****. It's the backwards way of thinking. If I go to a music store, I ask a clerk for help they automatically show me the rap section or R&B. All my friends know what type of music I listen to, I'm very open minded. But I won't get off the topic that soon. As soon as ppl stop stereotypical views of each other that's when shit will be better. Education? Yes I agree some parents aren't rearing their children right, but don't peg every black person in the same category.

You are lucky in music stores, at least you are acknowledged. When ask for help, I get pointed to a computer terminal to look up the artist and when I ask where is row ??? and section ???, the clerks points to an area.

I doubt if B. Cosby is speaking for all the black Americans in this country. I believe he is speaking out for inner city children that there is a future for them despise what environment they live in and one has a choice and a lot of opportunities; more than the middle class kids regardless of skin color. And if one wants to pursue it, stop thinking that education and conducting oneself in civil manner in a society is a ?white man?s curse?.

I admired that a very successful black man is helping his community and is trying to say adapt. And, wish more successful black people would speak out.

Honestly, who or anyone would hire regardless of color, a person with a ghetto attitude that cannot read or write? :)

He's black, right? so why is it he's saying something like that?

So only a white person could say what's wrong with segments of the black community?

BTW, someone mentioned getting tickets to see Cosby live. I saw him in '99, and although there are so many other comedy shows I've enjoyed more his was highly enjoyable and I would definitely recommend anyone that enjoys live comedy go see him given the chance. Many of his stories are about his kids, it had to be quite a trip growing up with BC for a father.

BVF,
You hit the nail on the head. I spent many years in a downtown public school (95% black) and saw the same thing.

When I first came to that school I was put in the accelerated learning program because I was years ahead of kids my age from what I had learned from another school. They had a field day with me... "The white nerd"... "geek class" (only 2 other kids total in my classes, both white). Shit, we even had our own special filed trips. It bothered me at the time but I am thankful to God I was separated and given a chance to have a better education. I really do feel sorry for those caught up in that cycle.

Anybody see "I Spy" with Cosby? Cosby is 67. He has seen a lot of prejudice in his lifetime. He has ALWAYS worked with the youth of America to help them reach their potential. Cosby has a PhD. He is pro education. What he was quoted as saying recently is something he has been saying his entire life. He's a good man. He gives his time, energy, and money to black communities and white communites to further education and eliminate ignorance.

When his son was shot and killed on the off-ramp of an Los Angeles freeway in 1997, he turned his attention towards violence and worked against gangs and hatred. A very good humanitarian!:thumbsup
