well no government is perfect.

i'd hate to see some other liars get in who can't balance the books then we tack on even more debt.

who knows the extent to which paul martin was involved in the shit, but he does know how to keep the books in order in both bull and bear markets.

with governments its not about picking a good government, its about picking the best of the worst.

Which really really sucks.. If it wasn't pretty much a requirement that the PM be french or at least speak french, I think some of the Premiers out west (especially Ralph Klein) could really shake shit up. If old Ralphie was in power, trust me there would be some cleaning house in government

Paul Martin balanced the books by cutting transfer payments to the provinces. If they can still find 100 million to slip to their friends, he's obviously cutting the wrong ares.

You wouldn't want any other party than the liberals in power. Sure they lie a bit and help their friends, but they are paying off debts and slowly reducing taxes.

Martin is power hungry and he's high on it, let's just hope he can keep it cool and keep the finances of the country in line.

every government wastes money. the liberals just wasted less than past governments.

the thing i like is he's conservative with budgets and if things go bad we're still in the black. any excesses go on our debt which has increased the quality of our debt which lowers our interest.

U rather have the conservatives run the country?! Have another Mulroney and swing this country into more debt?

Despite the scandal, the Liberals eliminated a huge part of the national debt and had the strongest growth of all the G8 countries. They are all dickweeds but they did do some things right.

Paul Martin is the best choice of the three. Harper is a redneck and Layton is a nutcase. Given the choices I'll take the liar.

Man, they are ALL the same, seriously. Canadian polititions are fucking amateurs. They don't know what the fuck to do. Everything is so back-ass-wards it is not even funny. They are always involved in scandals that waste tax payer's dollars and talk out the sides of their mouths.

Ralph Klein is a dip shit. I loved seeing him get nailed with that pie.. That was great. There is only one thing worse then a politician and that a fucking red neck bumkin politician. I'll be voting Liberal even though I'm no Paul Martin fan.

There in lies part of the problem, Quebec is aprox 20% of the vote, I doubt Ralphy would get much support there. He may however stand a chance in Ontario wich is approx 30% of the vote.

In all honesty, I think if they can make it work a minority govt could be a good thing for the country..... as long as it's not liberal/ndp I think a conservative/bloc "united" against a minority liberal govt might put them in their place.

well i'd never get voted in because prostitution and drugs like weed would be legalized and sold by government agencies. money pumped into venture capital, education, reducing taxes on export type businesses who bring in foreign money and R&D.

plus a slew of other changes including making governments more efficient and accountable for their actions. which would prolly take a lot longer than one term in office to fix because the whole system is more fucked than a thai whore.

I'll personally vote and financially support the next candidate who vows to slash 30% of the government workforce, make the entire government more productive and have a plan to eliminate the debt entirely within 20 years.

I don't think it's gonna happen though

the $37.3 Billion spent on servicing the debt each year would be great in tax cuts That's 21% of the total spending of the government.

sure its too high now, but there would be an optimal debt level that would be perfect for a government where the benefits outweigh the costs.

Platform promises released by the Rhinoceros Party included:

- repealing the law of gravity

- paving the province of Manitoba to create the world's largest parking lot

- instituting illiteracy as Canada's third official language,

- tearing down the Rocky Mountains so that Albertans could see the Pacific sunset,

- building sloping bicycle paths across the country so that Canadians could "coast from coast to coast",

- annexing the United States, which would take its place as the third territory (after the Yukon and North-West Territories) in Canada's backyard, in order to raise the average national temperature,

- breeding a mosquito that would only hatch in January so that "the little buggers will freeze to death",

- turning Montreal's rue Ste-Catherine into the world's longest bowling alley,

- selling the Canadian Senate at an antique auction in California,

- painting Canada's coastal sea limits so that Canadian fish would know where they were at all times,

- counting the Thousand Islands to make sure none are missing,
- banning lousy Canadian winters.

This sponsorship scandal is a complete joke. I don't even vote liberal but, to me, however many million they poured into quebec (to bribe, cajole, or browbeat the population into remaining part of canada) was *THE BEST* money ever spent in this country, without exception.

Since the referendum, we've got our AAA bond rating back (having solved the 'quebec problem'), separatism is at its lowest levels since its inception, and things are looking nothing but up for our future financials.

Martin could have dumped billions in there and it'd still have been worth it. All this 'scandal' bullshit is just a way to generate some heat for the front pages and let mansbridge sit around looking thoughtful.

Yeah right...........You are talking Polititians here !!!!!!!

Jay[neX] even if you ran for office and got elected, the chances of you changing anything are 0-none. When you are a rookie backbencher, you have NO say, you have to tow the party line.Real power is wielded by people in the upper echelons, who dont have time for any newbie member about to do some good.

I was involved with one of the parties on the provincial level years ago, so I have seen what goes on first hand at a lover level.

Danny Williams is Newfoundlands Premier, he is PC (we were liberal for the last 14 years) and in the short amount of time he's been in office we are going downhill, he sounded good when he was running, no job cuts and shit, got in and froze wages - not a big deal at least he didn't cut jobs, then he laid off 4000 public sector workers. Harper is the same as Danny Williams is. PC is a rich mans government - make the rich - richer and the poor - poorer.

I'd LOVE to see a minority government, but the thought of Stephen Harper as PM is scary. I dislike Martin as much as the next guy but let's not get crazy and elect a socially conservative evangelical Christian to punish him over the sponsorship scandal. Other than that his party has done an amazing job overall for Canadians... don't be so quick to forget the days of Harper's big adviser, Brian Mulroney.

Pay close attention to Harper, especially what he has said before the party merger and the campaign. Remember Bush ran as a "compassionate conservative", if Harper gets elected we'll be in trouble. Say goodbye to bilingualism, health care, the CBC, and gay marriage, not to mention the budget crisis his corporate tax cuts and military spending will cause. Oh, and look forward to following Bush into whatever war he lies us into next.

Nothing makes me more happy than seeing Martin and the Liberals squirm, but if he looses to Harper I may seriously consider moving.

a minority government would be hell. other parties would fuck the party in power and make them look bad. any chance they have to get an election called they'll take it. might as well put monkeys in their place in ottawa in this case, would be more effective and cheaper.

That's what seem to be happening right now ... a regime change every 10 years is always good

You better start packing now, because that possibility is growing.

I disagree, I think the NDP would be responsible if it held the balance of power, and a lot would get done but at the same time the PM would be kept in check. Also I'm a supporter of representational power and a minority government would likely force that issue. Time will tell I suppose.

politics is all bullshit and any chance they have to get into power they'll take it. they'll try to fuck over whoever is the minority government and once the polls show they might have a chance to win they will try to force an election.

the ndp promises to do a lot of shit, but yet how will they pay for it? same bullshit most policticians use, promises that get broken and then bang, we're back in the red.

Despite the scandal, the Liberals eliminated a huge part of the national debt and had the strongest growth of all the G8 countries. They are all dickweeds but they did do some things right.
Thats like saying would you rather have another trudeau in office. He was the king of tax and spend and he was a liberal.
