there is an option in power management in the control panel to 'wake computer on incoming modem ring' untick the box and that will sort it

You might also want to check the power management settings in your bios. Check what's set to wake up. Not all motherboards work well with windows power management so it pays to experiment.

Windows and just about ANY motherboard working is a joke. Setting your PM to wake up is silly as it gives anyone more access to hack you. Especially people with static IPs.
