				CRT vs LCD
Time to buy a new monitor. I've been working with a 21" Trinitron for a couple years now but I'm wondering if I should replace it with a LCD monitor or just get another CRT. Any input on which type of monitor would be a better solution? It'll be used for video/photo editing, web design, etc. I've heard that LCD's are pretty tough on your eyes especially when you sit in front of it 16 hours a day - anyone have this problem with LCD's? |

				 | if you're using your monitor primarily for design and video editing (and any other purposes where color is an important factor) - I'd recommend you another CRT.. I wanted to switch to LCD recently (better for the eyes), but they're still not perfect - colors change depending on the viewing angle (much less than on laptops though) and they're still not quick enough (sometimes you can see "ghost" picture and motion trails in quick movement scenes). I decided to wait a bit longer til they improve (shouldn't take them too long)

				 | Once you work on LCD you can't even look at a CRT without thinking why'd I wait so long to switch. LCD's are so much better now.

				 | i will never ever work with a crt again - after 14 hours you will notice the difference. tft displays have no radiation at all, sitting in front of a crt is like putting your head in the microwave.

				 | Go with a CRT ;) It is way better IMO than any LCD, for what you are doing. LCDs are only good if you have extreme space issues. Plus they are a lot more expensive. I just got a new CRT monitor yesterday: A Dell Trinitron '19. It was 7 bucks too ;) |

				 | for the past 10 years most of the time i spend in front of computers, first time i ever bought laptop my eyes had to adopt to the laptop screen for couple of month, my eyes were always red and itching.. that was long time ago, now i can work freely for long hours on most monitors i can't stand CRT with refresh rate lower 85 though. but new LCDs is a pure pleasure to work with, they're very soft on my eyes. your eyes might need some time to adopt to new LCD enviornment |

				 | LCD is easier on your eyes Sharpness is a lot better with LCD's If you buy a decent LCD viewing angle isn't an issue If you buy a decent LCD ghosting isn't an issue LCD's use less power LCD's just look cooler LCD's take up less space There's only one reason to not buy an LCD: LCD can't display as many colors as an CRT, which makes CRT's better for photo editing. |

				 | Get yourself an LCD and check your work on as many systems as possible still. Your eyes will thank you.. so will your desktop |

i have both, and graphics made on my LCD can look like ass on my CRT - the colors are different, sharpness is never consistent, etc etc. graphics done on my CRT always look great on both, as with video editing. i love my LCD for general surfing and coding, but not for design work.

				 | I have a 19" UltraSharp and I love it. It was around $700 at the time (20 months ago) so I'm sure they're cheaper now. I don't do designing though so I wouldn't know about the difference in colors. EDIT: I just checked the price and the bastards are still $700. What's up with that?

				 | Well i've got a LCD myself, it took a few days to get use to the change, but overall I think the LCD is much better. CRT's are so cheap nowadays, you could buy both and see which you prefer |

				 | It depends on the LCD, but the best new LCD's are better than CRT. I used a Mitsubishu 900u CRT for a long time and finally found the Mitsubishi NXM76 LCD to be better. The LCD's are much sharper and if you get the right one that doesn't dither colours the images are great. DVI interface is a must. With mine I can do design, watch TV or play Unreal and it is just as fast as CRT. |

				 | The CRT at this point is still superior for design to the LCD, however, I'm using an LCD on my laptop and it's fairly close. I always check my work on a crt before I publish it though. |

				 | I recently upgraded all monitors to LCD's. I can safely say I'll never go back to CRT's WG
