Damn, forget the name of this place (saw it on Oprah), but they specialize in finding old friends, out of touch family and birth parents. The vast majority of it is done with this computer program they have and because it is not labor intensive it was dirt cheap. Do a search for "internet detective" or something like that and see if you can locate the company.

Depends on who the "old friend" is. Classmates.com is great if you knew what school they went to and when.

Years ago I discovered I had a brother I didn't know about, and had to track him down. With a minimum of effort and less than $200 I was not only able to track him down, but find out everything about him - and get copies of his bank statements.

Contact me on ICQ if you need help along those lines....

Write the local newspaper from the town she grew up in. Tell them you are an old friend and that you have been searching and searching. Sometimes they will print a story and chances are if she has any contacts with anyone in the city they will contact your friend or the newspaper.

Years ago when my grandmother died my mom became curious about the relatives she had in England but never met. She didn't even know their names...all she had to go on was a pic of these people on their honeymoon that was like 35 years prior. The local newspaper printed the story along with the pic and the woman's sister saw it in the newspaper. My mother ended up gong to England to visit them and found out that they had already done a family tree that dated back just about as far as you could go.

We went to boarding school together...his family was in the oil business so they didn't really have a "home town" we've talked every few years....but, it's been quite a while this time. Since I'm going to Canada next month, thought it would be nice to catch up with an old friend.
