If America votes for Bush again I think that gives the rest of the world the the justification for a pre-emptive strike.

What's good for the goose...

I don't believe it. In fact, everything lately has Kerry in the lead by 7 points, and leading in key swing states, of which there are only about 20 left to decide.

i read it this afternoon, i can't remember exactly who did the poll but i checked it out and it was a legitimate poll, not by some right wing group with a bias. It was a poll of 'likely voters' and the analysis was that the week long coronation of Reagan's corpse plus expansion of the economy boosted Bush's lead from 3 points to 10 points. It also said this June poll compared to other previous June presidential polls is inconclusive, Bush's lead is larger than the previous incumbent presidents who went on to lose the election, like his father, but his lead isn't as large as those who went on to win another election.

ok i found it, it's a Harris poll.

President Bush's lead over Kerry widens and Cabinet members' ratings also rise

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Is it the effect of the nation's
memories of Ronald Reagan or the expanding economy? Whatever the cause, the
latest Harris Poll has a lot of good news for President Bush and the
Republicans. The good news includes:

* A very modest improvement in President Bush's job ratings (which is
within the possible margin of sampling error) to 50% positive, 49%
negative.
* Significantly improved job ratings for Vice President Dick Cheney
(from 36% positive to 42% positive), Secretary of State Colin Powell
(from 63% positive to 67% positive), and Attorney General John
Ashhahahahaha (from 40% positive to 43% positive).
* Improved ratings for the Republicans in Congress (from 35% to 39%
positive), House Speaker Dennis Hastert (from 25% to 29% positive),
and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (from 26% to 30% positive).

However, the most startling change in the new Harris Poll compared to a
comparable survey in April, is that President Bush has widened his lead over
Senator John Kerry, from three points among likely voters then to 10 points
now.

What Does History Tell Us?
President Bush's June ratings suggest that the Presidential race is still
wide open. His current ratings are better than the June ratings of recent
presidents who were not re-elected (George H.W. Bush, Carter, Ford and
Johnson) but worse than the June ratings of the three who were re-elected
(Clinton, Reagan and Nixon).

PRESIDENT BUSH AND HIS PREDECESSORS
JOB APPROVAL RATINGS
President Date Positive Negative Not Sure Re-elected
George W. Bush June 2004 50 49 1 ?
Clinton June 1996 55 45 1 Yes
George H.W. Bush June 1992 32 67 1 No
Reagan June 1984 55 45 * Yes
Carter June 1980 26 73 1 No
Ford June 1976 41 57 2 No
Nixon June 1972 56 42 2 Yes
Johnson June 1968 45 No data No data No
(did not run)

*=Less than 0.5 percent

These are the results of a nationwide telephone survey of 991 adults by
Harris interactive conducted between June 8 and 15.

TABLE 1
BUSH VS. KERRY
"If the next presidential election were held today between George W. Bush
for the Republicans, John Kerry for the Democrats and Ralph Nader as an
Independent, for whom would you most likely vote?"

Base: All Adults
All Adults Likely Voters
April Now April Now
% % % %
George Bush 43 48 46 51
John Kerry 43 42 43 41
Ralph Nader 9 7 8 6
None of these 2 * 1 *
Not sure/Refused 2 2 2 1
Bush Lead 0 0 +3 +10
NOTE: Percentages may not add up to 100% due to rounding.

Ok........whew.........thats a small sample.........thanx for the post though..........I've seen much more legit polls lately, way more comprehensive, that give Kerry a 7 pt lead, including in key swing states, the 20 key ones, like Michigan, Illinois, etc.

Where do these polls come from again? Most polls I've seen online Bush is ALWAYS behind. I've never honestly been polled or know anyone who has been polled about the election. So where are these statistics coming from?

I always stand me

80% of the statistics on ANYTHING are flawed/fake

I remember a line from Dennis Miller after the reelection and the joke went something like this..."Walter Mondale only beat me by 13 electoral votes and I didn't run."

Mostly because the Constitution would have to be amended.

Just curious. Why do you not like the electoral system?

It scares me when people who constantly preach about their Constitutional rights, want to throw things out that they don't like at the moment.

Personally, I think it will be a close election. Kerry suffers from the same thing as Gore. A very weak candidate. But he will benefit from the 'voting for the sake of change' votes, just as Bush did when a lot of people just wanted to be done with the whole Clinton adminstration.

Left the U.S.? Why is it that people ALWAYS ask that? So are you suggesting that people who do vote for Kerry left the U.S. before and people who vote Bush has never? I know the answer, maybe it's because you hang around INTERNET boards all day long reading the political ANALYSIS of the world by morons. It shows that you're nothing but a loof with no mind of your own.

Why do I vote Bush.... Maybe because I can see past the daily news that focuses on what's happening now instead of in the future. Maybe I feel that Al Queda is not the creation of ONE MAN but was created as a result of decades of failed societies in the Middle East. We can argue about the subject of terrorism forever but in the end, it's a fact that the Middle East will never fix itself and outside intervention into the region was inevitable. Like with everything in life, short term headaches for long term happiness.

Polls are such bullshit.

They rig them so they can announce them to the the public as a suggestive thinking campaign... "Bush is ahead by 10points....you don't want to vote for a loser do ya?"

Or, If you want a computer geek analogy....

Look at how they do benchmarks. One giant OS manufacturer just paid a 3rd party testing facility to benchmark their OS against a free open source up-and-comer that they are scared shitless of....

Do you think they are going to publish negative results from this paid testing source? Hell no. They are going to test and test again and play around with the numbers and tweak their OS until they get the results they like -- publishable results.

Whoever owns and works at the 'independent' polling company is going to vote one way or the other. (Think about a Diebold bias).

The sad part about (portions of) the American public is they see polls and let the the polls influence their vote because otherwise they might have to read about issues and political mumbo jumbo to try to understand what's going on - or god forbid, place a vote for someone who might not win.

/rant

It was only a few months ago when Bush had a lead in the polls - a strong one at times. Most of the time Bush has had a lead. Kerry pulled ahead about Feb 1 in his recent surge.

Also, Kerry was up by 7 points in an MSNBC poll just 10 days ago. I don't think there's been that much of a swing. It's probably methodology. I know Gallup's methodology is pretty solid and it is about a neck and neck race according to them and has been for a number of months now.

In one recent poll that showed Kerry ahead, the repub. talking heads complained because they said most of those polled were registered dems, lmao.
Conclusion? Polls are Useless, regardless of whether you like the results or not.

Heres my "poll" hehe

I don't know if this poll was actually taken in Rochester or not, but this city is largely Republican.

I'm saying that the Harris poll is not a survey of Rochester residents. I've read the methodology of that poll. Rochester is just where their headquarters is located.

did you actually read the post, or are you just looking for an excuse because you don't like the results?

Harris Communications. Their offices aren't too far from me and I had know clue that they were the "Harris Poll" people. Thanks for answering a question that pops into my head each time I drive by.

"Gee that's a big building...I wonder what it is they do there"

Never put it together and figured it out

I wasn't making an excuse. Only read the numbers and made a statement. I could care less about the results. Votes are what count...not polls.
