Like f.e a name is registered since 1996...but is there a way to check if it expired f.e in 2001 and was registered again ?

http://www.deleteddomains.com/ wil tell you if a domain has been previously registered and dropped, but won't tell you much else.
http://www.whois.sc/ will allow you to get a complete history of a domain, but it's a premium service.Comment

That damn whois.sc comes and visits a bunch of my domains every damn day. As far as I can tell there's no way to make them stop either. You can prevent them from crawling etc. but not at least reading the robots.txt file.Comment

you probably mean that for the domains that expire now you can check if they already expired before...but you cannot check any domain name for thatI don't use ICQ anymore.Comment

Since i don't have so deep pockets, i simply want to gain maximum knowledge when dealing with domains, to make sure if i buy something, it's worth the money.
so before i buy an expensive domain, i like to make some research on it ( the time spent on research depends on the price of the domain ) and then i start threads like this...and then i gain info from such threads and then i can share this knowledge in other threads...
ah, i think you already know what i mean more or less, i am too tired to explin more
