i don't really mind my glasses since i can still see fairly well without them, but i can see myself having this done one day, even though the whole procedure is a little scary at the prospect of something going wrong and losing my sight.

I had PRK done. (not LASIK) PAINFUL recovery. But very effective. Had it done about 8 years ago and I still see 20/20.

I wrote up some notes about it:

I got LASIK done about 2 weeks ago, I could see almost 20/20 5 minutes after it was done, the next day I could see a cloudy 20/20,
and right now I am 20/20 working on 20/15, eyes get better with time.

I had to sign a form saying I wanted the other one done, if they could not perform Lasik.

It is the exact same thing except Laski you have to cut a thin slice from the eye that is replaced, and the other they use the laser without the cutting.

PRK, I was told by the doctor, is a Longer recovery time, the eye has to rebuild that outer layer, and is some what discomfort.

The only pain I felt is I wake up in the morning with Dry eyes still, but it is no different than getting drunk and leaving your contacts in overnight, LOL

Peace!

Exactly, I am not sure why people "SHOP" around for cheap deals, for their eyes, LOL.

I had to pay more, but I picked the best.

I had to have PRK done because of the same reason, thin cornea.

I wasn't that bothered by the pain (my opthamologist seemed really surprised by this so maybe I am really tough) the think that pissed me off was the light.

They dilute your pupils so you remain really light sensitive for a while. But if you wear some sunnies you should be OK.

It took about 3 months for my vision to come up to better than 20\20 (I forget what it was exactly), and I also had a bit of ghosting while driving at night but that cleared up after about a month.

That was about 18 months ago and I am absolutely rapt with the results.

Get it done

Didn't she have Lasik?
If memory serves me, isn't PRK the older/one of the first types of laser surgery?

I know a guy in the military who had to get PRK done instead of Lasik because, for whatever reason, the military will not allow their people to have Lasik. (Which kinda worries me... what do they know that the rest of us dont??) He said it was a few days of really bad pain, he sat in a dark room, didnt even turn the light on to use the restroom. He said he never felt pain like that before.

Im going to wait it out a couple of years and see where all this surgery leads to before I take the leap. I have 20/400 vision, so I would LOVE to have it, but my friend's story made me nervous about either option.

I think you mean RK!
I have friends in the Air Force, and they have had lasik done.

They do not allow the very old Method of RK, because a blow to the head can cause you to go blind... RK is where the make several cust to reshape the eye with a knife...

Millitary and Federal Agencies do not allow the new laser they requires them to cut a flap in the eye because it weakens the eye.

Meaning if you got hit in the eye you will get fucked up bad.

Most sports players will only do PRK as well.

I guess im in for some serious pain, and ill just have to remember and hope for the good eye sight after that.

Thanks

Yes, it was Lasik that I had not PRK. I talked to a couple of people that had had PRK and they didn't mention the pain, but that could be because I wasn't having it done. My doc gave me pain meds for the first 24 hours, took one right after the procedure and went home and slept. Took the other at bedtime. Drove myself to the docs office for my checkup the next morning.

It's almost 3 months now. Not a day goes by that I'm not astounded by the results. My eyes will blur a bit at times but it's from sitting at the dang computer too long.

I was working 24 hours after I did it and nothing to reprort after that.

I don't remember anyone complaining of pain. The doctors in this state give you a strong seditive for when you get home. I think I slept for 24 hours.

Sounds good, but nobody is touching my eye and working around it for hours.

I just want a quick laser implementation, and that's it.

one of the tests they do when you're getting ready for Lasik is to check the thickness of the cornea and the diameter of the pupils. For me they numbed my eyes and used some sort of meter.. touching the tip of the meter to my eyeball to check the thickness of my cornea.
