Thunder, lightening or aliens, it's a noice pic :)

I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started hummin' a song from nineteen sixty two
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closin in

For fucks sake.. thunder is the sound that lightning makes.. thats why you can tell how close a storm is by measuring the time it takes for you to hear the thunder after seeing the lighting (the difference between the speed of light and the speed of sound)

Ok.. it's a real pic because thats what lightning looks like up close, I've been as close or closer to a lightning strike about 10 years ago with a few friends on a basketball court.. everything literally went white and there was a huge simultaneous crack.. we all subconsciously primitive-brain-reflexedly hit the ground as though it was an explosion. I think it hit one of the basketball court fence poles or one of the trees right next to it..

mdcq had an amazing bit of info on how to catch the lightning shot, but for other people like Namzo, what you need to do is up your exposure time depending on how dark it is.. it's a lot easier to catch it on a 2-8 second exposure than a 1/30th second
(not saying you did this but y'know) I've taken a bit of a hobby in trying to take lightning pics.. im not great at it or anything.. but you get used to the patterns and can usually guess when a "good" time will be to start the exposure.. or maybe i've just been luckier with time :) - a video camera also helps if you couldn't be assed wating for the perfect shot heh.
