Father's Day - Good or Bad Dad Poll

So let's hear what kind of Dad you have or had. Did he beat you? Alcoholic? Cheat on your mother? Deserted you? Humiliated you? Emotionally abusive? Nothing ever good enough for him? Diddled you?

This is a really good thread...
I'm not gonna say nothing though, cause I'll just get pissed off. In my situation I always hold myself back from feeling angry by acknowleging the fact that he did provide for me.

This may not hold to be true in all situations

you had a father who wasn't that good to you and your family?

lots of people have the same, i bet half the people on GFY had less than great dads.

i had a great dad but he's gone now. i never tell people that if they have a dad even if he's not perfect to cherish him cuz 'u only get one father' - if he was a dick to you, forget him.

providing for your kids is the bare minimum, a father legally has to do that.

it's like the Chris Rock routine where he mocks black guys who shout and brag 'I takes care of mah kids!'. Chris Rock goes 'That's what your're supposed to do mutherfucker. You want a medal?'.

NO doubt, he was an awesome provider, my mom stayed at home with the kids since my oldest brother was born and he's 10 years older than me!

If someone asked me this question 10 years ago, I would have said a totally different answer... I was Daddy's little girl but things change.

              I am a great Dad.

But Mothers day and Fathers day are all about marketing, selling cards, flowers and aftershave.

Do you really need a reminder to thank your parents?

Yea that's what I'm kind of thinking, thanks Mutt!

But I just recently pissed him off about the whole internet thing though, so it might take a little while (he doesn't know everything though)

well i think most fathers would be knocked for a loop if their daughters chose to do 'porn'. If it's just tasteful nude stuff he'll probably come around, hardcore is a tougher pill to swallow for a father.

he's a straight laced kind of guy? religious?

No he was told by someone, they won't tell me who though. I know my last ex's friend found it and told my ex about it but I don't know. I won't talk to my ex anymore, he's an idiot.

It's funny I want to go home and get my genuine Catholic school skirt, but I don't want the rents to ask me what i'm doing with it!

My dad and I had a strange relationship. When I was younger he didn't attend my graduations, and he didn't express how he felt and was somewhat detatched. I always thought he regretted having me until I realized that he is old school european - its harder for them to show their emotions/feelings. He may not say it directly to me, but I have heard through other people that he is proud of me and that I he couldnt have asked for a better daughter.

He is also 40 years older than me, and sometimes it was hard to see eye to eye with him, but then I grew up. He has always been financially supportive, and now that I am older he has a lot of good advice. I think a lot of kids don't appreciate their parents until they get older.....

In any case, I luv my dad!

My dad kicks ass. Hardcore blue collar, stone quarry worker for almost 40 years. Things were rough when I was a kid but he always provided and would give a stranger his last dollar if the person was in need.

Still working in the quarry to this day after being diagonosed with stage 3-4 lung cancer last year february (was a heavy smoker but quit). Gets his chemo and goes back to work. A true man in my opinion. (for the record I am trying to get him to retire and could handle his bills but hes just to proud to do that.)

Happy fathers day to all the dads

My dad is the greatest man that I know. He gave up so much to provide for me and my sisters. I only want to be like him and I look up to him every day. Im lucky to have a father that worked his ass off just to provide what he could, I didnt have everything but I had enough. he tells me thats his job to provide, care and be there for his kids.

My Dad was very selfish. He left my mom when I was 4 and my sister was 3. He'd come around when it was convenient for him, but we went for years without seeing him. Same trend with the child support money...

Now that he's getting older he's starting to realize what he missed out on, always calls, wants to see the Grandkids. But my sister and I lived our lives for so long without him around and it's hard to fit him back in now, and we're also very guarded about him. We were disappointed too many times when we were kids when he'd promise things then never show up. We don't want our kids to have the same experience.

Now Mom on the other hand...THAT is who walked me down the aisle when I got married, she's the one who earned it. Moms are the best

I really don't have much of a relationship with my dad. I don't remember him ever really being around when I was younger he was always working. Sometimes he used to work 2 or 3 jobs just to put a roof over our heads and food on the table, but I admire him for that. The only thing that is still embeded in my memory is the time my parents split for a yr when I was 7 yrs old. I remember every detail of that day like it happened yesterday.

Things are starting to get better between my dad and I which makes me happy. There was a time where I really didn't care if my parents divorced and I never saw him again. That all changed after I had my son and I'm glad it did.

my dad used to drink and beat the shit out of me every day while i was younger

but when i was about 15 we got in a car accident and he was crippled

it took him not being able to move to show that i was the only one who cared for him and would help him through it

he lived and now we are very close

thought there would be more people who would like to say something about their old man good or bad.

oh well, thanks to Arika and the others who posted.
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

I had a fantastic dad. Never spanked me, he was emotionally expressive, always there for us, friends with my stepdad, always bought presents for my stepbrothers, etc.. He was an alcoholic, but quit drinking before I was born. He quit smoking when my sister and I encouraged him to do so about 18 years ago . . . but he still died of emphysema two years ago while I held his hand.

He actually BRAGGED about his daughter being a pornographer. I would take him to his doctor appointments and he'd get this evil gleam in his eye and ask them, "guess what my daughter does for a living?" When they couldn't guess he'd pull out the punch line, "She's a PORNOGRAPHER!" Ahhh yes, I remember him well. The only big rules he had for us were to follow the golden rule and never say we "hated" anyone.
